Hi All,

Wondered if anybody had tried these tyres? Need 4 new tyres for my insignia and can't quite stomach a few hundred quid at the moment.

The real question is, is the black circle quality choice actually a good tyre, will i have problems with them? I know that they won't be as good as branded tyres but can they be that much worse?

I'm open to recommendations of other tyres of a similar value too smile

Thanks

James

'Black circle quality choice' is not a brand / type of tyre but a general descriptor for whatever half decent tyre Black Circles has in surplus or can get hold of at the time. As such only Black Circles themselves might know what make of tyre you will get if you order it.

Personally if things were tight, I'd go put some branded part worn tyres on or check ebay for a set of standard wheels with good tyres.

to me there is a reason black circles don't name the tyre...it will likely be the cheapest tyre they can get their hands on in bulk.

but hey I'm a cynic!

Does anybody have any thoughts on Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2?

Soft but awesome. Brilliant in the wet. A little soft in the dry warmer days but woth it for the peace of mind imo.

I found them pretty good when new in wet and dry - rears very poor life though. Different application to OP but just 5,000 ueseful miles from Assy2, pretty much slicks at 8,000.

Part worns are a big risk to me - you just don't know the abuse they've had. Bulging sidewalls is probably the only visual way of seeing anything wrong.

I'm sure they'll be fine, OP.

So you immediately replace all the tyres when you buy a second hand car too?

Generally, are most second hand cars being sold on because they were involved in a crash?

Is that the case for most part worns?

Can't see where else they would come from ? Average Joe and Josephene Jones don't change their tyres until they are borderline illegal.

This, wouldn't risk part worn myself either.

Also, always ran Goodyear Eagle F1's on my Supra and M3. If the rear's are wearing too quickly check your rtabs. Common issue on e46's I know.

as with any Tyre place, inspect the tyres yourself and see if they're any good. all will happily let you use their tread depth gauge.

It's not tread depth but carcase damage I'd worry about, that's not always visible.

Doesn't everyone? wink

Although I tend to do it with more than just tyres, as I don't mind buying a car with faults as long as I factor that into the price. Got a full set of Pagid discs & pads to go on too.

In my case it was more down to the fact that the 2 matched rears (V-rated) were just above the wear bars, and would need replacing in the next 3 months anyway (doing 25k per year); the NSF being a 10 year old winter tyre (T-rated) and the OSF (the best of the 4) being a H-rated tyre. Tried to get 3 others to match the OSF, but couldn't see my size available in any of the online shops.

The difference for a fully fitted set on mine (195/60 R15) was only about £40 between their random 'quality' choice and a named brand (Toyo, Kumho, Yokohama, Dunlop)

In the end I went for Michelin CrossClimate - at another £40 for the set, but I've offset that with a £40 fuel voucher from Michelin.

Did ask my local fitter, but he wanted £108/corner eek

OP

I used etyres and got 4 x Capitol Eco 007 tyres in 17 inch size for just over £200 fitted. So far I like them. No dodgy handling traits. Not sure how they will wear but they seem very quiet and grip well.

Might be worth having a check around with sizes/profiles. I found a £30 reduction per tyre (£90 to £60) for the same brand/model by going from 55 profile to 50 even though the sizes were all within spec for the car.

I think it just comes down to who buys what in bulk.

what size are you looking for ? I have 2 part worn 215/45/17 tyres with 5mm left on them you can have FOC if money is tight for you at the moment.

I bought Black Circles quality choice, or whatever they're called, and received Pace tyres. Initially I bought winter tyres, figuring that even budget winters would be better than quality summers, and found them to be very good indeed.

So much so that I bought a set of non winter Pace tyres (through Black Circles again) for another one of my cars and have no complaints about them whatsoever. For half the price of most other offerings and a lifetime guarantee, I think they're a good purchase personally.

I know others wouldn't be seen dead with anything other than 'proper' branded tyres on their cars but my experience is that they're absolutely fine.
