Superformance Future GT Forty

Take one GT40 replica, add the new GT powertrain, use bigger turbos and - voila - a Future GT Forty...

Superformance will be familiar to a few PHers, its array of Cobra, GT40 and Corvette continuation cars sorely tempting to those of us who lust after an original 60s racer but lack the wherewithal. As modern sports cars become ever easier to master, so the combination of huge V8, rear-drive and a manual gearbox (as well as gorgeous design) becomes ever more appealing.

Now Superformance is trying something a little different, with this - the Future GT Forty. Looks like one of its GT40s, doesn't it? That's because it is, with two thirds of the parts still interchangeable with a Ford original. Only difference now is the V8 has been swapped for the current GT's twin-turbo Ecoboost V6 (hence the stickers), with a pair of new Garrett turbos for good measure. Superformance is aiming for somewhere in the region of 720hp and 650lb ft; with a kerbweight of less than 1,100kg, the Future GT Forty should be even quicker than Ford Performance's latest - even with the five-speed manual it uses.

Additional tweaks for this car, recently revealed at SEMA, include a Magnaflow exhaust, HRE wheels with Michelin Cup 2 tyres and some carbon trinkets to improve the aerodynamics. Buyers won't be forced to have a Le Mans livery, however.

Superformance has said it will make as many Future cars as demand dictates, which you'll suspect will be pretty high given the way this car looks and the way it must go. Add to that a price of $180,000 and it looks all the more alluring. For some, of course, a GT40 must always have a V8 - see here if that's the case - but for others this Future GT Forty looks like a fascinating amalgam of old and new Stateside supercar. Form an orderly queue...

Nice, but I'd rather keep it old-school, keep the V8 and have one of their standard GT40 replicas, much better value too IMHO

The exhaust manifolds look too cheaply made to be fitted to something as expensive as this.

Saw one of these in a place called Old Tupton near Chesterfield 2 weeks ago whilst waiting for my kids after school.
Stunning looking thing but I was surprised how compact the Daytona Coupe looks compared to more 'modern' fayre...
No doubt I'll be drooling all over GT40 reps at the NEC Classic Car Show later this week (health allowing)

Lose the modern wing and swap the oversized wheels and tyres for something with a bit more sidewall and it would be perfect. Maybe put a V8 in it too...

I realise people are going to denounce a GT40 without a V8, but the twin-turbo Ecoboost V6 is the future and has recently been seen in TV star cars like the Gas Monkey Pantera and Guy Martin's Transit with some serious horsepower. There's really no downsides to the V6 Ecoboost that I can see, just the sound.

You know, looking at the colour they look like titanium to me. If so, WTF, the perfect exhaust. So, who is right?

They don't look like titanium to me, but even if they are I said cheaply made, not made out of cheap materials.

Odd you would think the material of an exhaust is more important than equal length primary pipes.

As an aside, Magnaflow make titanium coated exhausts - best of both worlds.

Ecoboost just doesn't sound like the right name for a performance car's engine. Or, to put it another way, a performance car shouldn't have an engine called Ecoboost no matter how many cylinders or how much BHP it produces,

So 654bhp/ton with a huge wing and no active aero.

1000hp TT GT 636hp/ton lost to a stock 720s, with cool lux interior, soundsystem, aircon, cooler doors...

For the money so long as it has air conditioning and a dog leg box, regardless of the engine this will really move. Way better value than many a modern supercar and rivals a fast Ultima.
