Best interior design of current gen cars

In a standardised world with 2000 cc engines and speed cameras everywhere the inside atmosphere is starting to be a huge selling point for me. I am absolutely impressed by the new Peugeot interiours, the 3008 and the 508 seem to be at least one product cycle ahead of anyone else in terms of design. So, what other newish cars are out there that can impress with their style inside?

Agreed. I think cars made a few years ago were the sweet spot for usability. The Golf is a case in point - my Mk7 GTI has a touch screen, but you can scroll it using a rotary knob which pushes to select (handy when scrolling through music albums or playlists). The Mk7.5 has ditched those knobs so you have to wave your hands around or jab at the screen whilst bumping through potholes. The only hope is that manufacturers will learn from feedback. From memory, everyone complained about BMW's iDrive when it first came out, and it was overhauled in subsequent iterations.

About that I drive thing - it’s still total rubbish in my opinion. Whenever I drive anywhere in my 4 series with the nav thing it’s always a complete faff to set the destination and functions like “end route guidance” are buried sub menus deep. Pretty much it’s unusable safely without your passenger doing it for you. So much graphical style over logic. Pants
I hate touch screens in cars as much as the next guy, to be fair though most manufacturers now have shortcut keys simplifying the process.
Ergonomics are vitally important, but a bit of imagination and style can make the daily grind a bit more bearable.

When I saw the title I immediately thought of Peugeot. And to the above poster, CAR magazine think so. They have a long term 3008 being raved about, and this month the 508 won a group mini test, which included an A5 5 door.

Have you figured out of it’s possible to “go back” when looking through tracks? I use the rotary knob to go to a track but have to use the touchscreen to go up a level.Nickyboy said:

I love the way the door flows in to the dash on that, makes it look a bit more cockpit. Even if I still hate the DS Moniker, to me it's like modern day Jaguar bringing out an E-Type range! I had a 3008 rental for a week. Wasn’t overly impressed with the interior functionality, apart from the ability to configure the dashboard as the sat-nav map, instead of dials.
The toggle switches (good) are plastic (bad), and it’s got a touchscreen too (very bad), but worst of all is the fact that the HVAC controls aren’t separate from the touchscreen, that’s a primary safety fail, and I just will not consider buying a car like that.
Also, the ‘mood lighting’ strip brightness was way too much on unlit roads at night, and turning it off was buried in the sub-sub-sub menus, took me about 100 miles to find it.
That said, I respect people trying something different - change is good - for me personally, in this instance, it’s better to look at, than to use.

That's a valid point. I think the back button is made bearable by being in the top left corner, so you can touch it by reference to the surrounding plastic.No doubt there is some cunning "back" shortcut I've been missing for the past 4 years.

I suppose it's fairly personal but I agree with the dislike of touch screens and knobs for temp settings. For me my BMW is spot on, iDrive is very intuitive, easy to navigate menus and stuff. Writing on the top of the knob is tricky but then I'm right handed so it would be.
