I currently have a 4 cars, one being significantly more valuable than the other three. What is a good solution for this, are multi car policies worth it, or is it best bet to add another car to an existing policy etc? Two of them are older so could qualify for classic insurance? a 97 z3 and a 2001 tt.

As big a pain as its going to be you will probably get better deals doing it individually.
A broker like Adrian flux may be able to sort it all out for you.

I've got two cars at the moment. Both are insured on separate policies but using the same insurer. It worked out considerably cheaper than any multi-car quote.

You just need to get the quotes and see how it comes out.

For me a multi-car policy was cheaper. I’m paying £400/year for a Jaguar XKR and a TVR Chimaera.

Individually, they were coming in at about £350 each. I’m late 30’s male with clean license and 14 years NCB. YMMV.

You can only use your NCB on one policy at a time though right?

Depends possibly, A Plan "mirrored" my NCB on another car if I recall (but it was a while ago so I might be wrong on that).

I’ve not found that to be the case. I’ve got 3 cars and recently moved them all onto a multi-car policy via a decent broker and it’s significantly cheaper than 3 individual policies.

And in answer to another question all 3 cars are building up NCD individually. Wish I’d done it years ago.

Hmm there is mixed views. In general from I have seen the initial introductory discounts make a big difference over individual policies. As time goes on it becomes more debatable.

Until the FCA make their final decisions, deadlines and reforms to the industry then it is going to continue to be a need to research go see what is best for your situation.

I have one, had three cars on it, sold one, now 2. The portal is quite good but you do have to ring up for most things, will need to sap my car out as I think I have pushed my luck already with the declared mods and any further I dont think they will insure it.

The NCB I have brought in seperately from other policies and it stays if you cancel one, or you can take it to another company if you wish.

We have four.

My E46, Ms 58 Fiesta, Old Westfield, and an 1920s Austin.

All insured independently, both named on all three. Kitcar and Vintage on 'specialist' policies.
Might be different on you have four tintops but even the BMW is approaching the time is would be better on a future-classics insurance.

Only thing we do 'group' is breakdown, as we have a join AA policy which covers both of us for all the cars which is cheaper than four add-on policies and likely better cover. We swap between it being in her name with me added, and visa versa, but they shaft you for being loyal.

I found the LV Multicar to be a good deal for my RR and Audi R8. I think Flux wanted £600 a year for the R8 alone but was just £300 with LV plus £500 for the RR. Didnt think that was too bad.

Cheers

Generally, yes, however, I was given a discount based on my long record with them but it wasn't an NCB as such.

Best bet us simply to ring and discuss; you're certainly unlikely to get anything 'non-standard' online.

Just been through with mine and the wifes car... Me a brand new C63S and she has a Jeep Wrangler. I think individually it was around £800 for both, but on a multicar it's around £600, both insured on each others cars, we maintain our own NCB also.

This was via Admiral

One of my cars is like Triggers broom - I think the only original parts are the chassis and "some" of the panels. It's on a multi-car via REIS, so long as I declare all the mods they're fine. Might be worth a look.

It depends on the vehicles, as some insurers specialise in heavily modified vehicles and will not touch standard cars, other insurers will only insure high networth vehicles, again if the cars are classics then insure under classic car policies as you get better coverage agreed value etc etc so there is no YES/NO answer.

Also on a multi car policy if you nave 1 claim will it effect the premium on all cars? even if they have their own ncb.
I tend to find people who want multi car policies just want cheap premiums, not interested in level of cover provided for specialist vehicles or claims service.

On my policy it won't affect the NCD of the other cars, but will potentially impact the premium, as it would if you had individual policies.

My Home Insurance was due 1st Feb @ £299
Compare the market has other providers around £250, I called existing Admiral & they could match it.

Then got onto multi car, I thought it would be awkward as car insurance runs until July.
But adding my car Jul-Feb was competitive @ £140 for 6 months & that then reduces home insurance to £209
Adding my wife’s car Jul-Feb £105 for 6 months.
This then reduced my car to £125

The car insurance isn’t taken until they are due.
Complicated, but pleased with the overall savings!

All will fall into line 1st Feb next year.
Can always shop around then if it’s not a good deal at the time.

So Home insurance down from £250 to £209
Car 1 £125 for 6 months
Car 2 £105 for 6 months
Both incl legal cover & independent NCD etc
Both cheaper than last years (pro-rata)

We just moved to LV= in December, and we went for individual policies rather than multicar. Essentially because through Go Compare, EACH policy could have a £250 extra excess for free.

I should check my wording.
One policy number, but each car priced individually.
So not actually sure what I’ve got!
