Weird - I assume they are all ex-Plod, but they can't all be faulty - have they been disabled? Why?

Fascinating but such a waste. A sad state of affairs if that's to protect anyone from comeback.

All are ex Police cars.

Well documented issues with spontaneous combustion.

Engines are being destroyed pre sale to 0revent any future liability issues

The last sale also had some in, there are hundreds to dispose of in this way

You can see the swarf on the block if you look closely.

I didn’t see. I’ve got a chum who is ‘involved’.

Critical to check a bargain used car for a large blob of weld on the side of the engine then.

What happens to the mileage on a car when it has its engine replaced?

So it could have a brand new engine at 70,000 miles, and still show 70k on the clock? That doesn't seem right, but neither does starting again at 0.

Shirley the dash will still show 70k unless it is corrected. I can't see anyone putting a brand new engine in.

Yes, because the car has done 70,000 miles

Had a new engine at 63k in my Golf (timing chain failure) and the vehicle mileage stays the same.

There are other components to consider with regards to mileage, not just the engine.

What an absolute waste of time / metal.

Perfectly good cars engines being destroyed for a "fire risk". For which is already very rare and has a recall out?

And they say our Police Services are forward thinking.

At least these are being sold to recoup some money. Some forces are simply crushing them.

But do you not see they're literally halving the amount of money they could receive all while contributing to waste and potentially theft ?

(A good car stolen for the engine, for example).

It's like literally ripping up a whole ream of paper for no reason. Utter wastefulness!

“Police knew of potentially lethal fault in cars disposed of at auction”

Yeah, they’re not risking that headline.

I see many things. However, you’re not seeing the bigger exposure to liability in the compo society we live in.
