Aston Martin confirms run-out DBS 770 Ultimate

Superleggera final edition will get sharper looks, better handling - and yes, 770hp...

It feels like time will be kind to the Aston Martin DBS Superleggera. Back at launch, it was easy to be a bit mean about Aston’s mighty flagship, with an interior that wasn’t quite up to snuff and a sneaking suspicion that a DB11 AMR was very nearly as good for a whole lot less money. But when the V12 has breathed its last and Aston offers a range of electric SUVs (maybe), it’s easy to imagine the beautiful old 5.2-litre GT being fondly recalled. People will talk wistfully, no doubt, of the days a DBS Superleggera could be bought for £150k…

Anyway, back in the here and now of 2023, Aston Martin has a new DBS edition, one that marks the end of production for the Superleggera. Though not fully revealed just yet, and only previewed in a very short release and YouTube video, there’s plenty to be encouraged by. Following the pattern set out by the DBX 707, the DBS 770 Ultimate’s name pertains to its power output. From 725hp as standard, this new car now has an incredible 770hp, which is more than a One-77 and (we think) the most potent this twin-turbo V12 has yet been. Aston Martin is promising ‘ferocious performance’ from this new model, which is very easy to believe given the disdainful way the standard car relentlessly piled on speed.

Furthermore, the 770 will be ‘re-engineered’, says Aston, which is some undertaking if correct for just 499 cars. But the result is said to be ‘sharper dynamic focus coupled with exquisite design’. Again, the standard Superleggera was hardly deficient in those areas - it’s one of the great modern grand tourers - so consider us pretty excited for what’s set to be a faster, even better looking, even better-to-drive limited edition. Aston says the Ultimate will be ‘uncaged early 2023’ - bring it on.

They could have spent the money this advert cost on getting the dashboard up to snuff. Woeful interior when compared to a Bentley, they seem to be hiring designers who never left the 90's.
Would i buy one given its many, many flaws. yes i probably would.

Sure, if it's massive depreciation you're after.

Probably the most disappointing car I’ve ever driven. Had one on a loan for a weekend as a consideration prior to getting my 812 SF. Looked stunning but was hamstrung by its inability to get the power down. Even half throttle seemed to spin the wheels or have the traction control light permanently flashing away and crudely cutting power (depending on driving mode). Definitely at its best when viewed from the outside rather than behind the wheel from my experience. Maybe they’ve improved this aspect over the years?

I do love the DBS Superlegerra. But the dash layout was up to the overall styling, but what a car! Probably my favourite Aston is recent years.

Hope to pick up a used one day.

But that advert is a load guff.

Well the ad made me cringe tbh

As above show us the actual car please

Good point made also about getting the power down

Sometimes less is more I think

F Type V6S for me

But then my budget is that of a pauper in comparison to the target audience

Isn't it time that Aston Martin was managed by a more competent owner? They always seem to be launching limited edition variants to try and keep the sales going to keep the lights on.

I hope they paid the A-Level media studies kids for their work.

Whilst I don't doubt what you've said at all, I'm also reminded of this (watch from around 6:29)...

I can't believe the used 'The Voice Over Guy"

The film is a total cringefest.

Ferocity Driven.

Give me strength.

A-Level media studies stuff as has been said.

I really hope they don't mess up the car with tacky wings and carbon tatt.

But it would be nice if they built it properly without the panel gaps you could lose your phone in.

Not my experience at all. When I drove it, I was truly amazed at how it was able to actually put that much power and torque through the rear wheels. I don't love the interior either, but the performance was incredible.

So the flagship front-engined V12 Aston Martin is coming to an end. No front-engine (or Aston-engined) successor. Just a mid-engine AMG-powered "replacement." How very, truly sad.

And that video is AWFUL.

Aston, take the terrible P Zeroes off the car and use Michelins or Goodyears to get the power down better.

A friend has a DBS which I’ve been lucky enough to be passenger in a couple of times. It seemed to have no problem getting the power down even in the wet. The ride quality on those huge wheels is astonishingly good. The interior was a very nicely crafted place to be, and the car looks fabulous… to these eyes of the best-looking cars in production today.

That one for £148k is a great buy for someone.
