750hp Shelby Centennial Edition Mustang unveiled
Shelby America to build 100 Mustangs marking the 100th anniversary of Carroll Shelby's birth

There’s a new Ford Mustang in town. No, not the new-new Ford Mustang, which we reported on last year. This is a Shelby America Mustang - or, more specifically, the Carroll Shelby Centennial Edition. As you might gather, then, it’s been launched to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Carroll Shelby’s birth. Just 100 will be made, and the price is $49,995 - but that’s not including the base car.
It's both a mechanical and styling upgrade. Outside, this includes a Shelby grille, side skirts and rear spoiler, with 'Le Mans Over-the-top Black Vinyl Striping'. On the inside, there are unique sill plates, matts and badges, with a numbered plaque showing its limited-run numbering. The car also comes with a Shelby leather package with a silhouette of Shelby wearing his trademark Stetson on the headrests.

Technically, it’s even more appealing. The 5.0-litre Coyote V8 comes with a 750hp supercharger upgrade and Borla cat-back bespoke exhaust. The engine’s additional cooling requirements are dealt with by a bonnet vent that helps draw air through the performance radiator. The car also runs a wider front track within extended aluminium front wings, with 20-inch wheels finished in satin black shod with 305/30 tyres. The suspension modifications include new springs and sway bars, along with adjustable caster and camber plates. The brakes are OEM, but picked from the Ford Performance Pack, which means Brembo calipers up front.
“The world is celebrating the 100th anniversary of Carroll Shelby's birth, recounting his many accomplishments,” said Joe Conway, CEO of Shelby American. “Though he had never flown before, he became one of the most skilled pilot instructors in the US Army Air Force. Carroll never took a single management class but created a successful team with some of the most talented drivers, development experts, fabricators and production people in the world. From his wins behind the wheel to his business successes and philanthropic initiatives, Carroll earned every victory.”

Ford Mustang (lots of horse power yer ha version) sub 180 and a 0 to 60 in the high 4 or 5s (based on Officially gassed video of both turbo and supercharged mustangs).
I still love it but maybe huge bhp is just a bit pointless

The 'problem' (if you want to call it that) with adding a supercharger to a large engine is you very quickly end up with rather exciting amounts of torque and that makes getting the most acceleration out of them at road speeds takes a lot of skill and favourable conditions (ambient / road temperature inparticular)
Not sure where the sub 180 has come from, but I'd imagine top speed figures for something like this aren't updated from whatever OEM model it was based on. You'd need some seriously poor aero (or comedy gearing) for 750bhp to not get you over 180mph

Anyway, car looks excellent, that bonnet and the front wings has finally managed to make the droopy face of the facelift work. Nice to see a manual too, it's (probably) what Carroll would've wanted

Surprised in 2023 people still make these kind of stupid comments about women and cars.
its just cool as hell as American cars go, not too yee haw, it doesnt suggest too loudly that you have big Elvis mural mural on your living room wall and wear cowboy boots despite it being January and you live in Bury. But, stick a little graphic of a bloke in a cowboy hat on the headrest, all of the sterling work done by the rest of the car is lost in an instant, I get the history, visited the Shelby HQ near Vegas but sorry, no stetsons on my Stang thank you very much, whoever is wearing it. Would Aston Martin do an edition with a bloke in a top hat and monocle ?
As for being fast, its 750 bhp, ok a Golf R with (or without) a remap might beat it to sixty, a Tesla Model 3 performance definitely will but thats something I can live with, compare a rapid, launch controlled exit by a Golf R, DSG shifting for you, electronics distributing power to all four wheels, no real drama beyond G force and an electronically enhanced soundtrack.
Versus, fire and brimstone, sliding sideways, supercharger whine, smoke and fury, it doesn't compare, just see it as getting longer to enjoy the process, and am sure with the right tyres on the right day it will go quicker, but you need to work for it and have some skill.
