Any idea what the fastest 0-60 time is, for a 50cc vehicle. Does anyone know what standards 50cc bikes/carts have in terms of BHP, and with a big budget, how much power could be squeezed out of them, with turbos etc

I got thinking after speaking to a 16 year old, 50cc engines are the biggest they are allowed to have.

Didn't Honda build a 50cc 4 stroke m/bike..back in the 60/70's?? 16 valves, 25,000 rpm etc etc..
Someone with more knowledge will know

It's looking like 26 H.P. and 80mph plus, out of 3 C.I.D (50cc).

I found that and more by Googling for "50cc land speed record".

I think you mean the CR110, it was a single cylinder, and had four valve, it was a little screamer but I don't think it revved quite to 25K.

Gorgeous little bike though.

I had a 4.0L Straight 6 at 16. No capacity limits where I'm from

Don't 16 year olds have a small bhp limit as well as 50cc tops?

I dont know. I was curious whether 50c owners were getting the most grunt from their machines, or whether they usually had a lot more potential.

Yeah I think it's been confused with the 250cc 4-stroke Honda built in the late 80's that was an exercise to see just how much power could be made from a 4 stroke engine. That rev'd to 25000rpm

16 yrs are limited to 50cc and 30 mph, not power.

Some of the better road 50cc engines produce about 12bhp.

They are really poorly limited thou.

i had a gilera 50cc motocrosser for the road when i was 16 because it was tall and didnt look so small and stupid.

To restrict it there was simply a washer welded into the one end of the exhaust to limit the flow of exhaust gasses. with the washer it pulled craply and couldnt rev freely about 8500 and power came in at 6000 it would hit 30 but was difficult and on hills it was like going backwards. About 15 minutes work with a drill changed that. removed the washer and it was like riding a new bike. revved through to 11500 before hitting the limiter. would pop its front wheel in the air or spin its rear. and suddenly could do 40 uphills ad 60 on the flat but at about 65 it would hit the limiter in top and go no faster!!

Was a really lovely bike actually. looked good especially compared to my mates scooters which it was far faster than. It had upside-down showa forks really good disk breaks front and rear and a 6 speed dog cut gear box which ment you dont need to use the clutch to change gear (aslong as you were ok with your right hand!!!). thinking about it i miss that little bike. it might have been cold wet dangerous and slow compared with my car but was a really hoot to ride around with friends when everyone else my age had to walk.!!

I would imagine you cannot surpass the power allowed on a CBT!? (14.6 BHP)

4. The New Category A and A1 Driving Licence
At age 17 or over, you will have two types of full motorcycle licence to aim for - the A1 light motorcycle licence or the standard category A motorcycle licence.

To gain a full A1 light motorcycle licence you must successfully complete CBT and pass a theory test followed by a practical test on a vehicle between 75cc and 125cc. A full A1 licence permits you to ride any motorcycle up to 125cc and a power output of up to 11kW (14.6 bhp) without `L' plates, carry pillion passengers and use motorways.

I'm sure that I saw a Honda 4-cylinder 50cc engine in Sammy Millers museum in New Milton a couple of years ago. Can't recall any details, but I'm sure it came from the mid-60's.
They definitely built a 50cc twin (RC116) which gave 16bhp @ 21,5000 rpm.

Anyone else think a 30mph moped on a cold rush hour morning is a total death trap??

If I had a 16yr old kid he'd bloody wait till he could ride something a little more manly.

with the aid of a trolley jacks and your mate holding the rear off the ground

i made some very quick 50's (tuning by guesswork) and none of them would wheele , ok the dt did but 1 or 2 of them would destroy the engine there simply isnt enough power in a 50 .

Well my '76 pre-restricted Garelli 50 would, and so would my Raleigh Chopper too, and that didnt even have an engine

i bet it went bang alot though my 50 did when i pulled the washer out, couldnt wait until i was 17 so i could do my test and hop on a bigger bike.
