New cars: discussion
Discussion
Yesterday I visited the Dutch carsalon AutoRAI and I saw quite a few nice ones. Some much to my surprise I must say.
Instead of dumping pics and create another Dink's Blog, I thought about discussing some of the new wheels around. Tell me what you think.
New stuff 1
Maybach Exelero: it's big and it's baaad. And it's sooo long. I must say seeing it for real it looks a bit 'really handmade' although I saw some vids of the beastie doing some high speed tracking so it can't fall apart. Saying it's Batmobile's finest just won't do. There are quite some nice lines and features. My money's on the Pug 908 when it comes to 'new era GT' though.
The Beemer Z4 M coupe IMO is one of the finest products BMW designed over the last years. Check da lines. In racer outfit it reflects the 2002 and 3.0 CSL times.
Corvette - on the RAI presented as another brand, not Chevy - made a statement and got it absolutely spot on with the Z06. Here in yellow and racing trim it's not that agressive looking but a winner none the less. After the C2 and C3 another design classic . . . and a bang for the buck. For a 3rd of the money this one's a Rari beater. Can't imagine it'll perform in the same grand stylee as those magnificent Marranello 12's though . . .
Inside it looks good and yes, it may have a horizontal bungee jumping bullitlike 1001 hp thrust this bugger doesn't do anything for me . . . How hard I tried to 'feel' something - must've looked pretty odd just to pass without making a piccie - it's cold and looking lumpy. Sorry!
Not this one! Ford Stang Shelby GT500 has it all, here in a great blue tint. There's not much to say other than it makes the 60's granddaddy look smallish . . . Great effort!

I've got loads of 'em, here.
New Stuff (2)
There it is, the Pug 908. Love that car and it's looking realistic to build as well, don't you think?
Marcos was a bit hiding at the Dutch Rai, disgrace really to see a good car like that just sitting there with no info at all.
Hands down the worst display of the show. Deserved much better!
Like I said 1.5 years ago: it's a classic! This orange one is still the crampy old one.

New Stuff 3
OK, C-Matisse then:
Very impressive thingy: website here.
It's more drama compared to that Pug for sure. Last pic by DutchBert.
Dink and Opel, that's like no combination at all. I like this GTC-concept though. Please don't burn me! Especially for saying it looks better than the Audi.
The GT Roadster certainly has appeal and in the Corvette-yellow here it's a smart looking car. But will it be a better drive than the S2000? I think not after seeing one pass by yesterday.
Another shock:
I sat in the Daihatsu Materia and it is a perfect city-roller. Big inside - not much of a boot though - and nuff space for adults behind me. I'm 1.86m, so seat is always in the last position. This thingy is 1000 kgs and will be tempting for 16k Euro.
Ditch the Micra C+C and get yourself a Copen. It's so cute.
Next: gorgeous new Corvette's and THAT Saab, hardtop Donky, W'mann, Saoutchik Talbot Lago, Bug T44, C8 Alfa with tranny, Spyker Zag, LP640, ragtop Bent and way more . . . Want?

It has no camber with a live axle.
Of those, the Opel GTC stands out as a pleasant design. The rest are pretty revolting. I like the Z4M colour scheme but not the big wing and big rear vents.
As a lifelong Corvette fan, how anyone can say the C6, in any guise, is good-looking, let alone a classic, defies belief. It's all wrong and I'm gagging to see the C7 due in 2010. Mind you, I was gagging to see the C6 until i saw it and started gagging...

That C Matisse is pretty ugly too...
I could stop posting but I just know folks rather say stuff is ugly than stunning.

I must be out of my head then . . . Don't read any further for there's more of that C6 below here . . . Check my profile - and scroll down - to see Graeme's nice Stingray. Of course there's not much to pass that.
New stuff part 4
How can anyone NOT like the Wiesmann, it's gorgeous.
It's the best of British sportscar history I'm sure (D-type hardtop) and with Beemer-reliability up front there's not much that could beat this in style, performance and elegance. Panzy? get out of here . . .
Look at it. Who cares for modern lines. It's still a bit pricey yet exclusive. Chose from 6, V8 and V10 . . .
Pretty damn clever logo as well.
Nice to see some old stuff as well.
SAAB put the nice Aero X concept at display. A relief compared to all the megadull reallife SAAB's out there . . .
Nice Donkey's at a pretty stupid stand . . . look at the effing floor!
Anyways, the entry-model is all you need to embarrass most Porkers. Bigger than a Catherfield
And with this one you got all the looks as well.
But I've a pretty damn good gutfeeling I'm on my own here as well . . .
Duck for cover! Ah c'mon, it's not that bad innit?
And worse: I like the vert even better!
Yup, it's a nicer.
And da back is a sound design with round exhausts for a change. WTF is all that with triangle and square tips?

You're right, but you also know that I can get excited about a good design.

Straight six only in the convertible. The GT is my favourite. It's a stunning car.
Have to call Wiesmann for THE appointment. Will do so today!
