In my travels Ive stumbled across an E30 M3 which I would like as part of my collection.

Its a standard '87 E30 M3 which is tatty (lots of small rusty areas) but straight.

Runs well and has decent history. Done 100,000 kms (60k miles) current owner has had it since import (10 years).

I was amazed when I checked how much these are selling for now as they seem to have sky rocketed in price since I last looked a couple of years ago.

What do we think? Money pits? Value?

I thank you.

Havent got any pictures at the moment.

He has an idea of its value and we have reached a figure but I can't help thinking its a bit expensive (until I had a look at some adverts today)....

depends if you are buying for investment or for a fun weekend car.

given they can be picked up for as little as £11K i would think that its not likely to be a wise investment if you are buying it to rebuild and intend to make some cash. its not like there is only one for sale at the moment either.

however, to buy and rebuild for use as a toy it cant be that bad, tatty and "lots of small rust areas" indicate infrequent usage however and could be more problems lurking underneath?

ultimately it depends how much you can get it for but anything more than £5K and i think it will be a struggle to make any cash on a sale in the close future, you will however have a great car at the end of it....

We need pics to help value it. If whoever is selling it doesn't know what it's worth would you tell them?

Me? No probably not. That's how you get a bargain wink On the other hand, if they were family i'd give them what its worth.

No I wouldnt tell them, its up to them to determine the value and work on it from there.

However this guy does know the value to a certain extent.

No its being bought to restore and put in my collection for occasional. 'As little as 11k' - thats what I mean. Couple of years ago they were half that....

This one can be bought for less than 4 grand.....

Yes that seems to be the general consensus.

I'll buy it tomorrow and post some pictures.

Restoration could be a nightmare. Really you want to get the bumpers / skirts / interior stripped off even the dash will hide major rusting, scuttle, rear number plate lighting, front window frame.

Check the front frame rails too where the exhaust manifold barely clears the rail, the paint will burn off and if will start to rust away.

If your going standard, I have some brand new OEM shockers at my house and also a full set of handbooks for the E30 M3.

i purchased this 1 yr ago for 4.5k,75kmiles and its a uk car too.It had been stood for a couple of years but required nothing mechanically and it drives as tight as it should be,but i changed all fluids inc gearbox(made one hell of a diference!!)
body wise it required the scuttle sorting as i am sure your car will and it aint a cheap job to do correctly, new screen and dash out,
the only prob i have had is a burst tophose
i love it and would rather sell a kidney than my m3

That you got rid of over 2 years ago?

Would you ever get another Gaz or are there other cars you want to try first?

Nice car. Yes the scuttle is rusty, in fact there is quite a bit of rust around the whole car. No problem with it mechanically I don't think, its all cosmetic.

I have access to alot of repair/restoration equipment and employ a panel beater and painter, so wont be that costly. I also like getting involved with these things myself.

The white one is nice......

I'm not a fan of white cars at all - but that is just gorgeous - plus an E34 that's in the classifieds at the moment cloud9
