Not sure if this belongs here or not...but here goes.

This morning's commute on the M5 north to Birmingham. Going past the M42 junction where the motorways merge. I move to middle lane to allow battered red Peugeot 306 to join M5. Lad inside driving with left hand on steering wheel, in his right hand...a can of Stella. This was at about 8.15am. Nice.

So many levels, so many levels...

the fact that he's drinking beer isn't illegal under DD laws (as long as he's below the limit) but he could be done for driving with undue care and attention

I would have thought this would be classed one of those incidents when you are allowed to use the phone hand held?

A report on midlands evening news a couple of days ago showed the police stopping people on one road in Birmingham for various things including a guy who was doing the same, and he passed the breath test!! I bet they were gutted...

It may have been the same person......

IIRC having open alcohol containers in the car is? I may have just made that up though?

possibly

when I was at uni we'd often sit on the roof of the house on a hot day and use empty vodka bottle to drink water from - the neighbour called the old bill saying there were youths on the roof downing bottles of vodka

rolleyes

Ah, I had the opposite experience. Stopped as a "yoof", some mates in the back had a few beers on the go. Made them throw them away before letting us go. No ticket or charge though so maybe they just didn't like the cut of our jib(s).

At a recent mates 40th, he mentioned to me casually one of his mates from 'down sarf' drove from Colchester to Teeside and had a bottle of Red on the way.

Sounds alarming, but to be fair, very relaxing I am sure.

One bottle of Red, 5 hour Journey, drive relaxed, arrived relaxed.

Could he be onto something?
in france they sell some really nice cider that's only 1.75%

it's a very nice driving tipple

Oh, I see.

So, drinking non-alcoholic drinks from alcohol containers = acceptable

Me turning up for work with a Starbucks cup full of JD & Coke = unacceptable

It's one rule for some, and some rules for some ones others. Or something.

Do you write for the Viz comic by any chance?

Top Tip:-

Save yourself £2.50 by reading Los Palmas 7 etc etc posts instead of buying the viz comic.

No. If I did, I'd know that Viz costs £3 these days.
