Running these tyres and not too impressed with snow performance, mainly starts from parked up/junctions in slight snow.

Appreciate summer tyres and Im running stiff suspension and low profiles but have a feeling quite poor, 225/45 17" in my case in a fwd audi a4 saloon.

Any one else with these tyres care to comment on their experience?

I don't know about the assymetrics, but I have the standard Goodyears (the one with the "V" shaped tread pattern) on my celica 190 and they probably made it the worst car I've ever driven in the snow. Getting out of parking spaces, going up very shallow inclines - just spinning up. Even saw big rear wheel drive German cars navigating the places I just could not.

The tyres made it so bad, that I went on a 150 mile round trip in the snow to swap my car for a Freelander!

Got F1 asymetrics on my Mitsubishi VR4, they're not too bad in the snow and ice, but the car is 4 wheel drive so hard to tell really....

Maybe, just maybe the attributes that make them excellent summer tyres is what makes them poor winter tyres.

I have these tyres, but with the V tread on my Merc Sport Coupe. It's horrific in the snow, won't even move off a flat drive. They seem o be pretty poor on damp roads too, constantly causing the traction control to kick in when trying to pull away at moderate speeds.

Snow performance indeed, yuk yuk yuk hehe

I had GSD's on my Focus last time it snowed significantly, they were fat so they surfed over the top, but they were particularly crap at getting traction.

Not wanting to hi-jack this thread - but I was going to post something similar - Mrs Orb(s) C220 CDi Sportcoupe has got GSD3s on (245 rears) and they are astonishingly, arse-puckeringly bad in the snow. Still better than my SportContact 3 shod SL500, but so bad that we have been pretty well immobile this last 3 weeks. I actually went to work on my race-wet tyred supermoto the other day - I felt safer! yikes

Guys, see your point, but these tyres are associated with grip, you don't expect then to be worse than than cheap Chinese tyres! Won't be buying again.

You're plainly an idiot. They're SUMMER tyres. Not SIBERIAN WINTER tyres. HTH.

Have the same tyres on my Golf, I never expected them to be good in these conditions, but they are truly awful in the snow.

Just as winter tyres would be bloody useless on a fast drive on a sunny day.

Hardly the revelation of the year.

Hmm, just about to fit a set of GSD3's on my focus...

Might wait until the thaw, although my current tyres are bloody close to fully bald!!

I have the Eagle F1 Asymetrics in 235/45/17 on my 4WD Evo 8. They are great in the dry and they are great at clearing water in the wet too.

However they are not great on the snow. Here's a pic of the tread pattern:

The three main deep groves don't help aid traction on snow.

Here are some witer tyres:

These have jagged edges, not smooth edges, to the gullys that run around the circumference. They also have more latteral grooves, bigger gaps between the treadblocks and textured tops to the treadblocks.

The F1 Asymetric is a good tyre 95% of the time as it copes with the wet really well in my experience. It's not great on snow, though.
