I go into Halfords and look at all the polishes, wax, detail etc etc and it's mind blowing. I hear that a whole new range is squeezing onto the shelves soon - There's a posh launch this week at Soho House in London. I have not tried all the others yet and a lot of reviews seem to contradict each other.

Sorry OP but I don't understand your post, what kind of range are you reffering to?

Any actual info about the range? Manufacturer etc?

Are you concerned that Halfords might have to expand their stores to fit?

It's a whole range of things like Auto Glym do. A detox, scratch remover, wax etc. There's these things called waffle pads as well which actually look quite good. But problem is I read tonnes of car mags and reviews, buy it and it never seems any better than the next one half the time...

Actually yes. Just keep renovating the older ones or building a healthier version instead. Lambo Miura that's reliable maybe?

IMO Halfords' range of car care stuff is woeful given what's available. Not that I mind because I'm interested in the higher-end stuff and am happy to buy from specialist sellers.

But the jury's out on whether there's space in in a crowded market place for another brand. I doubt it'll grow the market, but will it be good enough to make another brand pack up and go home? Or just shrink everyone's market share? To be successful it'll have to be genuinely and demonstrably different/better. (Unlikely.)

Halfords do seem to have done Autoglym proud. Whilst the product range now is getting a tadd wide the basic product has not suffered from the increase in production.

25 years ago you had to find it in a side street auto accessory store. The stockists were listed at the bottom of the Autoglym press ads. 3 stores covered the whole of greater London.

Turtle Wax original was the polish of choice of the masses at the time.

A similiar tale with Mer too.

Apart from that yes, I agree with you. If it is good, and sells well something else will have to go.

Like most things, if it gets plenty of press it'll sell for a while. Not sure how 'independent' car mag reviews really are when they have advertisers revenue at stake. I mean who would totally slag off a product from your main advertiser? Unless I'm too cynical tongue out
