Right 9 points now, what can I get to help me drive legally?
Discussion
I picked up 6 points for failing to supply driver identity, phoned, wrote, explained, got pictures, not clear who was driving, went to court and got tied up in the minutia of detail, tried to fight it, lost, 6 points, fair enough.
a month ago driving new car down to dorset, about to get on motorway get stung by police speed trap just before the speed limit change, 1 mph over being offered speed awareness course, bang 3 points, my fault, fair enough.
Now I have 2 years of infraction free driving and want to get something to help me not now but in 18 months when I will end up relaxing as opposed to the scared like a rabbit look I have now, and can't afford to make a mistake.
I would like something that monitors my speed and warns me when I am above the speed limit, I have been looking at road angels but not sure if they don;t just tell you when your over the limit near a camera ( essentially what my sat nav does ). I would like something that keeps me in check all the time. Can I buy something or add some software for my garmin 205 ?
One final question does a failing to supply driver details ( ms90 ) points start from the conviction or when the offence occurred? ( there is a 8 months difference between them) ?
Cheers

Yeap brain, yeap self control, nope I don;t believe I won;t go over the speed limit in the next 2 years, doubt many people can say different. Dont get me wrong, i am not looking for soemthign to help me rant to c0ck off my car, just help me not to go over the speedlimti at all. I was driving a 2.0 auto omega estate and have now moved to a 1.8 vectra, not exactly speed merchants !
Difference with me is I will lose my license if I do it now, most others won;t so would like to have something else as well.
I do have cruise but not that helpful on short 30mph roads, loads near me that are dual carridgeways
Edited to add, I am 31, have had a clean license since I was 17, all points are my fault but that is the scarey thing, I wasn't trying to speed or rag the car, so need to be very careful and want to be proactive

I mentioned this on here before, but get a tomtom go LIVE or a road angel. They update on the move and usualy tell you about fixed and VAN cameras. the van or mobile cameras are updated by the community of users who can press a button when they see an active one and this broadcasts to all users in the area for 2 hours.
I had 9 points in 2005, I have now been conviction free for 5 years.
The downside is that you have to pay a subscription and you can't guarantee that it will catch all mobiles especialy on minor B roads.
PS I dont work for road angel or tomtom, just a high mileage driver trying to earn a crust.

Cheers grgrgray, does it tell you if you over the limit on any road or just ones with cameras on it ? I don;t want to speed anywhere not just round cameras.I had 9 points in 2005, I have now been conviction free for 5 years.

Do you have a local IAM group?
With 9 points you don't just need to be careful, you need to be mother theresa personified behind the wheel. Whilst a gadget might help "remind" you of the speed limit, always handy, I would suggest (and I'm not trying to be rude or get your back up here) that if you've been caught twice (and tried to 'play the game' once and lost out) that there may be something in your manner of driving that needs adjustment.
It could be something as simple as observation - Seeing the limits and sticking to them. Seeing cameras/coppers is equally as important.
It could be impatience or frustration. I doubt there's a driver in the country who doesn't speed ever, and simply saying "I'm not going to exceed the speed limit for two years" is all very well, but practically impossible if you don't arm yourself with the skills to stick to it.
After all, can you guarantee that you WON'T wake up 30 mins late for work one morning when your boss is already pissed off with you, and just press on that little bit to get there ASAP?
If you're in the south east and willing to travel, I'd be happy to "have a look" at your driving tosee where your energies may be best spent (NOTE -I am NOT an instructor/assessor, but I am a police driver and I've helped a few younger memebers of my family sort their driving out before they killed themselves) but I would recommend some programme of "advanced" driving tuition to address the heart of the problem, not the symptoms.

It highlights your speed in red if your over the limit for the road. also keeps you under the average speed cams on motorways, roadworks etc..The speed limits are based on the maps and are sometimes out of date but mainly accurate.Cheers

No not annoyed at all buddy, appreciate it, I am in Uxbridge in west london. I am fully aware that I am the problem and I was thinking a noisy beeping machine to tell me when i am over the speed limit would help along with me trying as hard as I can. With 9 points you don't just need to be careful, you need to be mother theresa personified behind the wheel.
