I've been all over the place to buy cars but I imagine not everyone is so keen to travel. So lets say you were in the market for a barge, costing between £1000 - £3000. What is the furthest you would travel to see what appears to be a good one?

And is the time and/or easiness of the travel a factor? eg would you drive, say, 50 miles on single carriageway A and B roads, but 100 on dual carriageway A roads and motorways?

My last barge was bought in Andover.

Flight from Belfast to Southampton, owner picked me up (somewhat committed by that point!) dropped him at his house, stayed overnight in Crewe and Liverpool - Larne boat the next morning. Oh and another 45minutes to my house from the boat.

The car cost me £800 and didn't miss a beat

What was the car Will?

I did a similar jourmey to buy a lorry in Essex then took it back to NI. In fact its still there. Some of my car buying journeys:

London to Cheshire for a P38 Range Rover.
London to Hereford fo an MGB.
London to Derbyshire for Land Rovers several times (seems a good place to buy series Land Rovers).
London to swansea for a Range Rover Classic.
London to Norfolk for a Jaguar and a Range Rover.

Went to Dorset last week to pick up a Jaaaaag.

An elderly Volvo T5, needed an estate car to move house and fancied a weekend adventure to go and collect it (plus there was nothing local within budget)

Brilliant throw a way car, kept it for 18 months and drove the life out of it and made all my money back breaking it for spares.

It's always a gamble but i'd do the same again. A good phone call usually gives you an idea if the car is sensible or not.
