Favourite 'special editions'
Discussion
Prompted by the ID3 'Fire and Ice' thread, I started thinking about special editions throigh the years. Sure there are obvious ones like Clio Williams etc, but what are your favourite memories of special editions, including 'Dealer' specials.
I loved the Harlequin Volkswagens, Jeans Beetle, Panda Italia '90 with the football wheel trims. Renault 5 Monaco with the full leather trim, 2cv Spot (special orange tincture).

Love all the ones mentioned already but being old I seem to remember there was a Brabham Viva HB special sold at his two Vauxhall dealerships in Hook and Worcester Park.
Vauxhall also showed a droopsnoot Magnum estate at Earls Court in the 70s in silver, as in everything was silver including the seats. I'm not sure it was ever offered for sale though!
There was a Golf Rolling Stones too that would be quite cool, to oldies like me anyway.
Honda made a Civic Jordan special edition too.
But the ones I never cared for were things like Ford's Million special Fiesta and run out specials like the Granada Chasseur, Cortina Crusader, etc. although I loved the Capri Brooklands!

Mazda Bongo Friendee of course .
...now, is a Bongo Friendee a 'special edition' or just a model? I guess a few of the most famous cars were 'special edition', Escort Mexico celebrated rally success for instance...I remember you got a mk2 Harrier that aped the RS models but had simpler mechanicals, and maybe a 'Linnet', a bit like what the Golf Driver was to the Gti in mk1 and 2 forms.
My mum had a Mk4 Golf Match Tdi, later my daughters first car. I was astonished to find it was one of the most expensive Golfs under the Gti. Early Polos had a lot of special edition models, I remember having a Polo Boulevard I think it was called. Think there was a Polo 'Fox' before the VW Fox model?

I saw a Civic Jordan yesterday, all yellow with the 160hp Vti engine from memory. Vauxhall also showed a droopsnoot Magnum estate at Earls Court in the 70s in silver, as in everything was silver including the seats. I'm not sure it was ever offered for sale though!

Not my favorite but most bizarre perhaps
The BMW Williams F1 Edition.
Apparently it was commissioned by Sytner Group as a dealer special. No mechanical workover at all, just the seats and plaque plus a few factory extras as standard. There were only 26 made, but 26 from across the range - there were a few M3s and even an X5 as well apparently. Such a weird "special" for BMW and Williams to put their names to - from the Ford school of shifting the last few unsold Fiestas in the 90s school of marketing

My second (normal/daily) car was a citroen C2 Loeb edition. I only bought it because my wife (then gf) didnt like driving big cars.
Citroen did a C4 and a C2 Loeb edition to celebrate the return and dominance of Sebastian Loeb at the wheel of the citroen rally cars. It was essentially identical to a VTS but with a bespoke interior, stickers, only available in red or black and a few other bits.
It wasnt keen of motorways as it buzzed away at 4k rpm at 70mph, but point it down a country lane and keep the Revs above 4000 and it really shifted well beyond what it should've been capable of. It gripped and braked really nicely and you could really chuck it into corners. The TU5-JP4S engine was a real gem. 123bhp and <900kg.
I distinctly remember because it was lower, slightly wider and had bigger tyres, the turning circle was crap.
Pictures of my actual car. #45 out of 320 made

Ford IMO, were the grand masters of tarting up old tat, way past its sell by date and flogging it off as a special edition.
Most special editions, evoked thoughts of cocktails, exotic places or foreign dances, occasionally they’d slip the odd endearing one in.

The Ford Marauding Rapist.

You could have your wheezing asthmatic Capri 1.6 named after a packet of fags.

How about the optimistically called Ford Mustang II ‘King Cobra’. V8, 4,900 CC, 139 tarmac shredding ponies.
Never has so much been offered, yet so little delivered.
Read the brief.

Mini Clubman, JCW, for an average family saloon, this looks cool.

MK2 Leon Cupra "K1"
It was only available in the UK, the body kit was available worldwide but only badged as a K1 in the UK, body kits were fitted at the docks so they weren't fitted/painted to the best standard.
The supplier of the K1 badges also didn't make many so they are discontinued now.
