A cycling type question
Discussion
My daily commute is along a twisty B road. It is also a popular choice for cyclists - not a problem; share and share alike.
What really scrapes my balls is when a group of cyclists are happly cycling along in their tight little outfits parralel to eachother creating what is sometimes a 4 deep obstacle to pass.
Am i legally wrong for thinking that they should be in single file and are almost asking for a clipping or are they allowed to travel in said formation?

Experienced this earlier when two cycling bum chums in full regalia were coming the other way on a country lane (long straight). Rather than pull in behind his mate he insisted on staying two abreast, I returned the compliment by making sure the wing mirror passed close enough to give him a draught, stubborn .

Why didn't you pull up ahead of them and remonstrate with them safely?Because you're only hard in your car thats why.

So you nearly hit a cyclist by making sure you passed him in the opposite direction as close to him as possible. With your car. To prove a point. And you call him a stubborn ?

When / if you kill a cyclist, it's just this sort of post (now reproduced several times over through "reply with quote") that will add a few years to your sentence. geeteeaye said:

You utter fking . Bet you've got a prick like a shrivelled walnut you fking brain dead asshole. What if a car coming the other way was taking up the same amount of space? Would you drive like a fking retard then too? You have a ton plus of metal and you aim it at someone because you don't like the way they're riding even though it's totally legal?
I hope an HGV takes a dislike to you and turns you into a bonnet ornament you small minded sack of st.
Now just FOAD
Now that's over and done with....
I'm a cycling trainer (oooh get me!) and using "single file" and "double file" as a group to control jucntions for safety is a part of what I teach. It should be used properly though, and as a group and wit ha "leader" instructing when to go from one to the other. When cycling along narrow lanes then yes, single file is more appropriate to allow cars to pass safely. We even build in stopover gaps for cars when there are loads of us out.

Words fail me!!!My picture is of a narrow country lane with passing places where two cars abreast would not fit, a car and a single cyclist would be ok but a car and two cyclists abreast is a bit of a squeeze.
It would appear that one of the cyclists dropping back would be win win all around ?
A couple of weeks ago, I was forced to a halt by cyclists coming at me two abreast round a corner on a fairly narrow lane. I _could_ have squeezed past but no doubt would have got some abuse for doing so, instead I had to hit the brakes hard enough to upset my dog in the back a bit, so they could continue in their formation. I personally don't think that's reasonable road behaviour.
At least some of them thanked me.... not.

I think the Highway Code says not to ride more than 2 abreast?
yup, a 'should' rather than a 'must' though, i.e. recommended but not law. It also recommends riding single file in busy traffic or in country roads - basically all common sense stuff, i.e. don't hold others up unnecessarily - remember rule 1 of the highway code, etc.edit: of course, drivers 'should' give other road users as much space as they would a car, (again not must), which you would have thought stops the first part being a problem - who'd complain about cyclists forcing them fully on to the oncoming lane if they were doing that anyway? - but hey ho. Both are guidelines because both can potentially have a good reason to be ignored.
