Don't you just love that fresh car smell as soon as you open the door? What is it? Two of the MK4 Golf's I've owned both had the same new smell which definitely wasn't something you spray, but the Leon I picked up has no smell whatsoever, even though it uses the same materials as the Golf. My 147 also had it's own unique freshness.

I cannot stand that musty smell you get though, my MR2 made me not want to turn on the heaters, but not because there might be something rotting in the vents but because I just imagine years of people dust blowing around me..

The fresh smell makes me feel right at home, but if it's musty then it takes me a while to use the heaters or eat in the car.

I'm not the only one am I? biggrin

Minicabs everywhere in the UK always reek of the same, god-awful air freshener. Makes me ill! Of course, that's NOTHING to do with the beers consumed beforehand. Oh no..

The small is usually adhesive and plasticiser.

Older Porsches have a unique smell, which statys forever, after the new smell fades.

I made a thread about it ages ago, I love car smells. I can even remember what my Dad's old Austin Mini smelled like decades ago cloud9

Buy yourself the an Airwick Vanilla and Magnolia air freshener and you can make your own home smell like a minicab!

I used to love getting in to my parents' new Fords after a hot day in the eighties. The smell was cloud9

I did buy some Autoglym Shampoo and now the car smells like Dove soap, not the smell I was after but I guess you can't replicate that natural smell.

Not a fan of scented trees either, although Opieoils freshener smells lovely.

No idea why the Seat didn't have it then, and it's newer then the Golf's I had. At least there's not a bad smell I guess.

Incidentally, I'm considering the E39 5 series, what do they smell like? biggrin I'd imagine BMW would have a long lasting smell?

yes

My Monaro (2006) already smells like that. An intriguing mix of leather, plastic/rubber, glue and that smell you get when you walk around a fabrication workshop, a kind of metallic and hydraulic oil mix. biggrin

I've just bought an E34 and it doesn't smell as leathery as I'd hoped, it has a slightly damp smell which is unmistakably 90s German.

the best fragrance type smell I have experienced is the Autoglym Odour Eliminator/ Autofresh sprays. When I clean my cars I spray some in general direction of the cleaned carpets and it lasts a fair few days. I detest cars that have air fresheners on mirrors/ vents/ dash. Looks so 'minicab muppetry'..

The 944 had a pleasant smell. Can't really describe it to be honest. I may experiment with one of those new car smell things though. Test subject will be the Micra!
