Unless they have changed it with the new style, it used to be on the front page where it usually says "declared new at registration" or something along those lines.
Thanks for that.So I presume if that section makes no reference to cat C/D damage then the vehicle does not have this issue?

Is that section 3 Special notes?
I don't see an 'Additional notes' section.
Sorry it is special notes. It doesn't always show up on the V5 though. My Puma that was Cat-C repaired had a note on the V5, but my van which showed up on the HPI check as Cat-C stolen recovered has nothing on the V5.I don't see an 'Additional notes' section.

Not sure that's a valid presumption: I wouldn't rely on it. I know the history of MrsC's runabout, and it may well have been a Cat C/D in the past but there's nothing on the V5. Best to check properly.I've no personal knowledge of this but isn't there a process whereby the vehicle can be inspected by VOSA who then issue a certificate for DVLA which enables the car to be properly recorded as "live" in the database?

Best to check properly.I was involved in a non fault accident and my car was written off. I decided to keep my car as it was only the front wing that was really damaged. The other damage was not as bad but as it’s a metallic car and the insurance used a main dealer to quote it was written off. I can get it fixed for under £500 but no one has asked me for my log book to mark down that it’s a cat n (old car d). Will I need to inform my insurance as they should know as it was them that put me in touch with the claims company.
