Polo TDI converted to a polo cup edition car, worth it?
Discussion
Someone i know local is selling a 05 polo tdi 1.9 and has converted it to a polo cup edition car. My question is, they want nearly 6k for the car. Is it worth it.
car is a cat d, light vandlism damage owner says.
50K miles on clock.
Polo cup edition body kit (worth 2k?)
Miltek turbo back exhaust
Red interior leather
Full VW Service history
Recent cambelt change service
brand new front wishbones
lowered, uprated coilovers
x4 new pirelle p zero rosso tyres
17 inch bbs anniversary rims
uprated brake discs, pads, calipers, front and rear
polybush kit all round
The owner looks like he's looked after the car well, but nearly 6 to pay for a car my age (20) is alot and I don't want any nasty surprises. Should I do an RAC/AA inspection on it?
So my question is, for nearly 6k, an 05 plate, cat d repaired (light scratches) what the owner has done to the car is it worth it?
Looking to spend a further £700 on performance/accessories wise.

Sorry - but this car is not a good buy at all. I don't understand why anyone would want to make a diesel hatchback look like that... But that is just my opinion.
If you are planning on declaring all of the modifications you are going to be looking at a lot of money for insurance as well.
Finally it's a cat d. The guy may say that its just scratches, but imagine trying to sell this in a year or two's time. A chavved out diesel polo, which is on the register. It will be worth about 50p.

A proper 07 gti for £5950. Not even Cat D :-)

Hmm, I did a quote moneysupermarket, came back as 1700, with 1 years ncb, licence 1 year, 20 years old, with an addtional driver who is 31, 13 years licence. If you are planning on declaring all of the modifications you are going to be looking at a lot of money for insurance as well.

Sounds a little on the high side. Why don't you offer them £5200 and see what they say?

many thanks for this, I'm going to try my best to haggle the price down. Reason why is they have got a miltek turbo back exhaust I wanted to have on the car anyway, great set of tyres and rims, has all the service history done at vw, along with the above points in the OP, i really don't have to do much to the car.http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/2013...

Spoke to owner via txt, said 5500, said re value and resale value, see if you can find another in the uk with this spec and mileage and for this price or less.
so 5500, take into consideration the following:
CAT D
50K miles on clock.
Polo cup edition body kit (worth 2k?)
Miltek turbo back exhaust
Red interior leather
Full VW Service history
Recent cambelt change service
brand new front wishbones
lowered, uprated coilovers
x4 new pirelle p zero rosso tyres
17 inch bbs anniversary rims
uprated brake discs, pads, calipers, front and rear
polybush kit all round
Not worth it?

People have already told you what they think. It won't change. However life is too short to listen to people on the internet, if you really want it go for it. so 5500, take into consideration the following:

However - it's a heavily mutilated budget diesel hatchback, which is 8 years old and which has been damaged seriously previously to be deemed a total loss by an insurance company.

Take the hint from the other posts, it really isn't worth it. Do you have any more info on the write off?
Here's a GT TDI for £500 less, without haggling, which should sell on pretty easily. And it's the 130bhp version, so should trundle along alright, and certainly better than your cat d wagon.

ETA Just found the OP's cup car was listed on gum tree before 2nd March, so it's been for sale for at least 6 weeks - nobody wants it.
