focus st170 sub
Discussion
Hi, the sub in my focus blew and i got another secondhand,(kenwood t10 0878 08)The original sub had just 1 voice coil but the kenwood has 2, i have just wired to one set of connectors but now it seems to be trying to play higher frequencys as well as the low so do i need to wire it differently ie http://a248.e.akamai.net/pix.crutchfield.com/ca/le... or http://a248.e.akamai.net/pix.crutchfield.com/ca/le...
problem is i dont know anything about the sub or the amp, the amp is the original option one and i cant find info on the sub, help.

How many ohms was the old sub and how many is the new sub, you may need to wire the new one in series or parallel to get the right ohms for the sub (like your diagrams). The sub must have a higher range speaker inside it as well as the bass. You are probably connected to the higher speaker.
The 4 ohm diagram is wired in parallel, if you wire it this way then you halve the resistance of the speaker, in this case it will become a 2 ohm speaker matching up with the amp. (4/2=2)
The 2 ohm diagram shows it wired in series, this way the impedance of the speakers is added together so you get a 4 ohm circuit. (2+2=4).

You need to put one of these In Line on your RCA/Phono input to your amp this will give you greater control of your Frequencies.

Thats what I cant work out, does the sub have a phono input like an active home cinema sub would or is it just a big speaker(s) that just has a straight speaker input, like a passive sub would.http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Longmill-CX-001-Subwoofe...

no phono input just straight connectors, old sub was the same but with just one voice coil so just one set of connectors.ZX10R NIN said:

How hard would this be to wire up, i see it needs a power feed, would this one be better http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Audiovox-Viper-Crossover...http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Longmill-CX-001-Subwoofe...

That's it, the one you're looking at is no good.
