Most random car you bought?
Discussion
Just a car that looking back, you really wonder why you ever bought?
I've always had decent motors VAG mainly- but for some reason I walked into a Skoda dealership back in 2013 and bought a newish Fabia.... I was starting a business and thought it to be a sensible thing to buy. I must have somehow convinced myself that buying a Skoda was sensible...
It was made even more boring by being silver.
Even my dad- a non car guy- thought it looked very OAP... Kept it six months and sort of made another mistake by straying away from the usual german stuff and bought a Hyundai Coupe V6.... It was actually a decent car haha but that's another story.
Ever bought something stupid along those lines?

I had a few beers one Friday night and accidentally bought an Alfa Romeo 166 V6. I had no need or desire for a large saloon car at the time. It was also 300 miles from where i lived.
Was a great car, I kept it for about 10 years before the clutch, flywheel and paint conspired against its continued ability to stay on the road.

A Skoda is VAG. Definitely OAP though.I've always had decent motors VAG mainly- but for some reason I walked into a Skoda dealership back in 2013 and bought a newish Fabia.... Worst mistake - BMW E30 318is. Bought as I wanted something a little more sensible, upmarket (from my MR2). Turned out to be a complete dog. A really bitter experience and put me off BMWs forever.
Well, this is easy - I bought an MG ZR V6 and it was brilliant and ste all at the same time.
I was using it to drive to the train station and it was ace for that, it even sounded pretty decent. But the list of faults was growing, so I popped it up for sale. I couldn't believe it sold within 24hrs and for £500 more than I paid.

Changed from a job with a company car to self-employed and rushed into buying a Citroën BX 16TRS with red paint that faded unless regularly polished. I couldn't close the blind over the sunroof due to the limited headroom & it needed a new (re-con) carb after I had driven it 10k miles. Rather slow but very comfy ride.
Still it lasted me fot 25k miles & travelled around France on one holiday with no other problems.

Despite being a fairly large chap (6ft tall, about 16 stone), I bought a Fiat 126 from a mate's Dad, about 25 years ago.
Pouring myself into it was hilarious and never got old... For those watching.
Gears kept "falling out" of the 'box. In the end, only 1st & 3rd worked (or was it 2nd & 4th? I really can't remember that far back). I do remember that reverse stopped working, so going backwards was a case of opening the door, swinging a leg out, and kicking down like a weird disabled skateboarder.
Finally met its maker when joining a roundabout. I thought the person in front had gone. They had not. The little Fiat was written off and undriveable. The Fiesta I hit was virtually unmarked.
The whole 126 experience was very, very random.
(Additional context: my usual kind of cars are, and always have been, large barges with big engines and automatic gearboxes.)

Something like going in to part-ex my Polo GT for something bigger and came out with a Polo G40?
Or going to replace my modified Corrado VR6 for something more sensible and buying an e34 M5?
Or looking for a cheap runaround (instead of hiring something) whilst my 2nd e34 M5 was getting some work done, and buying a nearly new Z4M Coupe?

lol, so not really a random car. I'd owned a number of Renaults including a Clio 172 and a Megane 225 which became a fair weather car and I had a number of little runabouts. Having used an old Clio for daily use, I decided that a VW Lupo was the order of the day. I was only about 26 at the time so had a vision of what I wanted it to look like, didn't have to be quick but planned for it to be low and on decent wheels.
I managed to find a fairly modified example. New manifold, exhaust, induction kit and decent coilovers. I then spent a few quid making it look shinier.
It was my daily car for nearly 2 years and considering it was lowered by about 60mm, I vowed to never again own a low car and also have never owned another VW. Another Clio 172 and Megane 225 Trophy came my way though but that was a fleeting moment in VAG ownership.
One handy thing was that it sold within 3 days of putting up a, 'May be selling thread' and the guy who bought it waited nearly 3 months to take the car whilst my RS Twingo was built.

Fiesta 1.1L.
Id just had a cambelt break on my 309GTI and needed a temporary car that day for the 25mile commute to work each way. It was £350 and the closest car to me for sale..
It wasn't until I started driving it to work the next day, that I realised that it had a five speed box as the gear know was worn out.
I actually used it longer than planned as a 16V lump was stuck in the GTI, but I sold it to my brother in law as his first car.
