There used to be loads of cars I wanted but now nothing seems to tick all the boxes. I'm late 20s budget 10 - 15k for something great. Considered an Evo but service intervals and running costs just seem a bit pointless really, especially when doing 20k a year. Scooby still seems ok as cheaper to run but not sure if the idea is a bit dated now and bad image and prob not as quick as I remember. E46 m3, already have an e46 and the m3 is getting a bit common now. S4's and RS4's massively over priced and abysmal mpg, could say the same for all 4x4's as well. Hot hatches not really the right image and not great for long trips / motorways! 335d's amazing but already have a diesel BM and want something a bit more unique.

I used to browse the classifieds and want everything! Now nothing is jumping out at me. Maybe it's a combination of economic downturn so less to spend / looking out for costs in future, older now so more sensible?!?, putting practicality before fun??? Anyone else found this?

I do want the pace of a faster car but nit at the total expense of other factors. E39? M5 would be great but money pit and dated design!

Just out of interest do either of you who suggested it own a second car? I have for the past 18months and I am about to sell it, despite doing a few track days and plenty of motorsporting events I can't justify the cost anymore. At least I have got the use out of it but if was only a "weekend car" I'd never use. The few times I did take it out just seemed a waste of time. Each to their own but I get more enjoyment out of a daily driver which you can drive on normal day to day runs, but when u stumble across a quite b road or late at night and you can have a decent blast. Totally unexpected and unplanned. The act of taking a second car out for a blast just sort of ruins it for me! Appreciate other ppl like it but I think I'd just prefer a decent powerful daily driver.

ok, two questions.

1. What is it you need the car to do? ie how many seats, boot, etc, etc.

2. If you want as you've said "unique", not a bad image, not common, not dated and something great. Then are you willing to look at or consider less obvious cars?
4 seets and a boot needed. Might consider 2 seats. Yeah unusual is ok, no lhd though, nothing too old, nothing so rare that just topping up the washer fluid costs a fortune

Some great suggestions, the criteria can definitely be met, maybe one or two wishes have to be lost but it would always be a compromise:

I liked the sound of the Monaro, will looking into that. Jags are good but maybe a bit company director looking?!? Got excited about lexus rx400h until I saw it was cvt gearbox - no way! I know they fitting them to new impreza but after having an escort with one years back - NEVER again!

911 and Z4MC good shouts.

Scoob and m3 still possibilities.

Need to check out monaros
