Hi,

I currently have a skoda fabia vrs and due to a change in circumstances I no longer need the mpg of the VAG mobile. I want to go back to petrol and have always liked the type r and am seriously considering getting one in the next 2-3 months.

I have a budget of around 4-5k plus my vrs (near enough 100k on the clock worth around 5k, 4k on a p/x), which would get me a very nice example, but any other suggestions are welcome. But im looking mainly for comments on the CTR.

If you do make other suggestions im looking for 25+mpg combined and not crazy insurance as im only 21

Thanks a lot

Just to add...don't let people tell you "yeah there useless before Vtec"
Or
"You need to redline them to get anywhere"

They perform IMHO,fine before 6,000RPM
Glad you said this as I was a little concerned that I wouldn't like the change from mid range grunt in the vrs. A friend had one and he said it was fine before VTEC but just came alive at the top end. Im seriously tempted as it offers me everything i want

In regards to the interior I am coming from a Fabia which isn't exactly the most beautiful interior in the world.

I dont really fancy a DC5, a good mate has got one and although I will never deny they are cracking cars, I have always wanted a CTR, just one of those things, and im a lot fonder of the hatchback look of the CTR over the coupe look of the DC5. Its purely a personal choice!

The CTR is sounding more and more appealing as time passes and i read more and more good comments.

As for the Cupra I have had a VAG turbo (all be it a diesel) and after something a bit more revvy

I find that the VRS is deceptively slow. Mine has also been remapped and it feels like you are going a lot faster than you, personally i think its the kick from the torque. Had a play with a few CTR's and I would say they are are a fair bit quicker in a line and far better in the twisties. It could just be me though

I ended up with two of them. First one I sold at 90k miles and it was only just starting to show its age. The clutch was on its way out but otherwise spot on - seats still supportive and pulled well. I had a Premier Edition after that and it was better again. Neither used a drop of oil or suffered any kind of mechanical malady. Took the second one as far as Spa and even a 10 hour day behind the wheel was fine. I wouldn't hesitate to have another if the situation arose.
Im looking at a premier one just love the recaros and seriously want A/C

Thanks for all the comments didn't expect so many! Between you guys and the reviews the positive outweighs the negative and I'm 100% now. Thanks for the suggestions but I just want a CTR, one of those things I suppose

My dad has had two mazdas, an rx8 and a xeidos, and he said although they were good cars, when something went wrong with them it usually resulted in a large bill. is this the case with the 3 MPS?

and as people are saying that the dc5 is better than the ep3, wouldnt a 6 MPS be better than a 3 MPS for the 4 wheel drive?

I know its been a while but so what....

In reply to all the comments I have put my Fabia VRS up for sale on here and have looked at a few Civic Type R's. So far I have found (all of these are strictly my opinion btw):

Cosmic Grey is the best colour
They are surprisingly pokey under VTECH
Air Con is important
Not a huge amount of difference between standard seats and the recaros
I am undecided if the extra £'s for a premier is justified from what I have seen
Models seem mechanically sound from the examples I have tried (03 with 91k, 05 with 83k and 06 with 55k)

Just a matter of selling my car and then scouring the market for the one I want, but from what i have seen and experienced a CTR is definately the car I will be getting!
