Insurance Excess

Hi All,

A friend of mine was recently involved in an accident where he rear-ended another car. He accepts that it was his fault. The damage to his car = minor scratches to front bumper and grill slighty cracked - it's a cheap Rover 75 so he is not bothered about getting it repaired. However the other car was a 08-reg Zafira and has light damage to the rear bumper (scratches and fixing bracket broken). The owner of the Zafira only wants his insurance company to deal with the claim (no doubt he will also include a "whiplash" claim) and therefore does not want to take up my friend's offer of cash to settle the claim without using the insurance companies.

So, will my friend have to pay the excess amount from his own policy (£350) for this claim? Or does the excess only apply if his own car is written off or stolen?

Hope that makes sense.

Thanks Carreau.

That is what I thought too. Can anyone else also confirm this?

Thanks
