Ive left a deposit on a car I am due to pick up thursday. It is not taxed or insured. I have arranged the insurance today and have printed off my new documents.

To tax it on thursday can I go into a post office near the sellers home with the renewal notice and tax it?

You can, but some post offices can be a bit funny about emails/printed insurance documents. I had no problem doing this 18 months back though. Just persuade them to call the insurance company and verify the document if they have problems. you might even get them in the post by Thursday morning.
Ah right ok, I might give the post office a call tomorrow then and confirm thanks.

Can't you wait until the 1st of next month?

If you tax it on Thursday you are paying for all of September.
And that.
You're paying 30 days tax for 4 days use. wait until Monday! Just... eerrr. ... don't drive it anywhere and leave it on a drive, not the road. after you haven't driven it anywhere obviously.
Hmm, I didnt think about that, better give the seller a ring tomorrow then!

Can you not borrow some trade plates to get you home?

How far do you need to drive it?

Will you be going on the motorway or past any ANPR cameras?

Do you feel lucky? Well, do you, punk?

The offence of No VEL is not endorsable, so you can be fined and ordered to pay the back tax, but you won't earn any points.

Whatever you decide to do, don't borrow the tax disc out of another car. This would be fraudulent use of a tax disc, which is a criminal offence.
The car is in epping and I am 120 miles away, 2 long motorway slogs...

Problem is, if I go thursday my friend can give me a lift down and follow me home. If I go monday I will have to get the train (£35) and a couple of tube passes plus a taxi/bus from the station in epping to his house.

I need to work out if that cost mounts up to more than 1 months road tax. How much is 6 months tax on a 1996 v70 T5 volvo?
