First, I'd like to thank everybody for taking the time to F*****G PISS-TAKE!!

When I took the sump off (after grinding to a halt on the road), the oil was full of metal filings, too much to have been the remnants of the rogue nut. The top is also full of bits of metal aswell, so that is why I'm playing it safe & getting a new engine.

The moral of the story is: If you drop anything into your engine, get it out strait away!

Total and utter 100% misinformed rubbish

The nut would not of caused the engine to stop working

But what the fk do i know i've only been working with engines for the past 18 years

So the 8mm nut went through the 4mm holes in the strainer and then destroyed the oil pump
No, the oil pump is still working!

As for the nut not causing the engine to stop working...Well I must have just imagened my engine seizing up & stopping, I must have imagened towing it back aswell.

thinfourth2, with 18 years of experiance do you not have anything constructive to say?

I am not an expert. But its pritty apparent to me what happened.

The bearing shells where coated with metal filings (as is everything) the nut was chewed up by one of the counterweights (opposite the one circled in the picture) just below the dipstick.

I ran the car for a few weeks after droping the nut inside, I though it would be fine & just get stuck in the grille on the oil pickup. its just bad luck that it found its way to where it did.

The rotating assembly would not grind the nut and turn it into filings which would then go up the oilways and block it all up.
Well that is what happend! & the marks on the counterweight & oil rail make it pretty apparent.

It's more likely that the engine was knackered by the strainer being full up of all that red hermetite sealer st someone has lagged around the sump to block join, the sealer filled the strainer causing oil starvation and then the bearings ate themselves.
Thats funny because I put the red sealer st on afterwards! after cleaning out all the metal.

Does anybody on piston heads have anything usefull to say or are you just going to keep telling me that it didn't happen?

Will- If it had been dropped down the dipstick tube, Then yes it could've been retrieved by removing the sump/baffle/windage tray. An hours work and probably about £20 in gaskets!
I have leared that the hard way!

If the nut was chewed up i would expect most of it would be caught by the oil filter before it gets to the bearings to do any damage
Some of it was.

So, pray tell how, after many weeks (or miles), a nut can leap 6 or 8 inches upwards through a viscous liquid and land (miraculously) between the rod and counterweight?
Bad luck! like I said. & its more like 2 inches assuming it landed on top of the windage trey.

No, no you didn't, that stuff has been used and comressed and is peeling off where the sump has been removed.
I'm just not going to comment on that!

BTW, of course its been used, I put it on there! of course its been compressed, I screwed the sump back on! & of course its peeling off, I removed the sump again!

I guess next your going to tell me that I don't have a white prelude, that I dream't the whole thing.

I don't profess to know what I am talking about but I though maybe somewhere on piston heads might be some people who could offer proper advice or comment's. But I guess your probably just a bunch of kids or something, I think I'm going to leave piston heads & go back to torquecars.com

Not referring to any posts in particular, just the fact people are calling him all sorts of names which just seem unnecessary!

hippy
Not to mention that nobody seems to appreciate (or even believe) what has happend here.

I joined piston heads months ago but spent all my time on torquecars.com instead. Now that I've gotten an idea of the kinds of people who post on here I can't really believe it, you all sound like a bunch of kids who learned everything from gran torismo 4 or something.

I mean, dous anybody on here ever go racing, work on cars or have anything interesting/helpfull to tribute? or are you not old enough to drive?

It is apparent to me that there is a lot of ego & very little personality on piston heads. & I dare say that many are not the experts they profess to be.

Anyway I'm not wasting anymore of my time on this website, I'll recommend it to my 17 year old nephew who has a 1.25cc fiesta with a 6 inch back box that he drives round the town at midnight & thinks he's a racer. He'll fit right in.

Good bye.
