Have a budget of about 6-7k, looked at audi a3 3.2, decided its probably a bit too thirsty for my 50 miles i do a day and have been borrowing a scirocco 2.0gt. Id love to be able to afford to buy the scirocco from the friend thats lending it me, i cant afford the 15k shes asking !
I fancy a mark 5 gti, but not sure what to think of buying a 80k mile car for 6/7 k - seems like a big risk; turbo chargers going pop, other various bits and pieces going wrong.
Basically i want a reliable, reasonable mpg car thats petrol, dsg if possible and has about 200 brake. Ive considered the cupra r and although theyre wicked bits of kit im not sure i fit their demographic any more. Ive looked at subaru wrx's and although they claim to get 35 on a run from trawling the forums ive found its more like 24.
What are the mk5 gti pitfalls?

I drive a lot with work and would love to have a GTI, ST3, MPS etc but I just know I cant with the amount of miles I do, I watch my fuel in a diesel, god knows what I would be like in a 200bhp petrol!
reviews depend on what your looking at, the professional ones seem fair, the personal ones all vary, good and bad but I'm always of the impression that if you really want a particular car, regardless of what reviews you read you will still get it.
Go with your gut, hot hatch conversations on here could end in war if enough people get invovled
I do about 900 miles a month thats about £220 fuel cost @ 26 mpg average. I dont see that as too much?! Nope it wont, ive had a dull diesel for 3 years and now i drive less miles i fancied getting something thats relatively fun to drive but not as extreme on costs as a Evo or Scoob. Halfway house !For 900 miles it only cost's me £100, if that!
