Quick question, for the last two months I've done well over 1000 miles extra mileage going to different locations for work, training and supporting teams. I get 30ppm which I get as cash with vat fuel receipt as proof. Someone told me about a hmrc p87 form which apparently enables me to claim extra due to my employer paying below the recommended 45ppm rate? Any truth in this?

Well they keep this hush hush, thanks for the info. How would I find out what percentage I get? Sadly not a company director by a long shot, only earn a bit more than 20k.

It'll be 20% then. So for 1000 miles you'll get £30. Yay!
Remember to keep records of the journeys too - where from and to, and what the purpose was. Keep them for 6 years.

Really, as I said esrlier, if you're an occasional user the firm should pay you the full 45p. Suggest they hire you a car instead.
Oh well better than a kick in the nads! No chance on getting the full mileage amount, they're a tight, Northern but national retailer. Working it out it's actually quite a lot more than 1000 miles so will be worth doing. So do I just fill out and submit a p87 by April?
