Found 5 grand behind the sofa last night and want to spend it on something fast and fun

Boxster is my first thought but what else is there?

Needs to have a roof as it won't be garaged

An Elise would fit the bill, but seem to be out of budget

Don't really fancy a subaru

I am a bit of a car snob hehe

Its all a bit of a journey into the unknown for me to be honest

I have been lucky enough to have owned some cracking motors and currently run an SC range rover, but it's not chuckable enough down the country lanes

I want something reasonably cheap and cheerful that will start first time when I get in it and not spend half it's life being 'fixed'

I am as mechanically minded as Joey Deacon and therefore unable to look after it myself

I am also 40 years old so any modded Jap motors are a no no TBH

I wouldn't go the Boxster route at 5/6k unless you have very deep pockets to run it. And if you do, you probably won't be spending only 5k on something like that.

Old-but-sorted MX-5
Clio V6, maybe (probably slightly out of your price range, but interesting, no?)
Lotus Elan M100
Fiat Barchetta (yes, that's a RHD one!)
Nissan 200SX
Mk2 Golf GTI VR6 conversion
TVR Chimaera (if you're feeling very brave with the bills)
Man, there are some great suggestions there and thanks very much indeed, but none of them do it for me, sorry

I fancy a toy, 2 seater, bog standard mobile
