I know it's a bad market at the moment, esspecially with cars like my own. "Big" petrol engined 4x4, and with petrol prices as they are, it's not the most indemand car out there.

Car in question is a Honda CRV. 1999 ES model. 116k on the clocks. 7 months mot, 6 months tax. Nothing mechanically wrong. Only downsides would be the exterior which is just general ware. Few scratches here and the odd dink etc. Nothing major at all. Not rust either.

Had a fair bit of money spent on it in the last few months on new tyres (not cheap crap) all round, new exhaust system, new window regulator and a number of suspension parts, bushes, joints etc.

I paid £1200 for it in October last year, listed as needing a bit of work. It wasn't the cheapest on sale but certinately wasn't the most expensive. Not by a long shot. Even now, there are rougher, higher milage examples with no service history listed at £2k plus.

I originally stuck the car on ebay at £1700 with best offer. No offers. Nothing. Fair enough, maybe being a bit optimistic so listed on here for £1500 ono. Had one chap from Brazil email me. So no joy on that then. Relisted again on ebay for starting price of £1300. Ended this morning with no bids, no viewings, no questions etc. Meanwhile, the car is still listed on here for £1300. Had one question asking for my phone number as they would like to buy it. Gave them my number saying that any questions would be best asked over email as I can't answer at work and rarely get a signal at home. No reply or call.

I don't understand how a car can devalue so much after 6 months of ownership, 4k miles but with a new 6 months tax and a number of new and expensive parts. What still gets me is that this is the cheapest CRV on Pistonheads. Next up is a good few hundred more. It isn't the cheapest on ebay but anything cheaper is a wreck being described as ***MINT***...

Any advice on shifting this car?

Well yes, obviously.

I buy a car riddled with faults and needing work. Spend a fortune on it, have a change of circumstances and try to sell. Why would I expect to sell it for less than cars which need loads of work?

The former rather than the latter would worry me more.

But, with both of those combined I would just move onto the next advert.
It’s not like they are hard cars to find.
If someone wants to call me, they can email and ask for my number first. Not putting my number on ebay means I wont get random people phoning to ask what my lowest price is, then hanging up when it's not what they want. Had it before. Not going to do it again. If you can't be bothered to email me then you obviously aren't that bothered about the car.

Also, car is listed in Cheadle, Staffordshire. Ebay account is Listed as Stoke On Trent. Cheadle is approx 4 miles out of what most people would class as "Stoke On Trent". Not really wrong is it?

Whats wrong with the car now? i.e is it using oil?

The reason why I ask is lots of people buy a car then 'change of circumstances' soon afterwards to disguise they've bought a pup. I'm NOT accusing you in anyway but it could be seen that you bought a cheque-book car and want out as you've already spent a fair bit and want to cut your losses.
Nothing wrong with it at all. The advert is as honest as can be.

Change in circumstances is that I now use public transport to commute rather than using the car, costing petrol and parking. All explained in the advert. No reason to have the car parked up on the drive 5 days a week and then get limited use on weekends.

My previous responce wasn't intended to be "ratty". Just think that the 2 points picked on are so minor it's not worth mentioning. I just cant see why anyone would get hung up on buying a good car because they have to ask for a phone number.

I take on board that yes, it may be over priced but how can it be when its the cheapest on here, also nowhere near the most expensive or highest milage on ebay. It's pretty much middle ground.

Just an update for whoever cares...

Advice listened to. Relisted on ebay. Changed the description, made the location more user friendly and put a phone number on. Lowered the price to £1100 but with best offer so people can atleast offer what they think it's worth.

So. 10 mins after I list it. My phone rings...

"Hi Boss, whaz da lowest you take for da Honda?" "I only got £400 to spend"...

Yeah, thanks but no thanks. rolleyes

I gave 650 for one t n t last autumn, its overpriced. Either wait until Oct/Nov when the price of any 4x4 rises or lower the price to 900 and see what happens. OP have you tried green laning? Its great fun and the CRV is ideal for it. Nothing wrong with being biway-curious smile
I did look into green laning a few months back actually. Sadly there is pretty much nothing near me worth a look unless I pay for it...
