Have you ever done anything this stupid?

I have just returned for collecting a Phase 1 xsara vts with only 54k. I jumped on the train from Southampton to Bracknell, and saw the car. It's in reasonable condition, in a nice blue. The drivers seat has a little wear, but it was taxed and MOT till end of Sept. Over 800 was spent on the front end suspension last MOT!!

Anyway, I thought it was a good little purchase, so I did, but whilst driving home I notice it seemed a little underpowered. It was only then that I realised its the 1.8 rather than the 2ltr cry

I can't believe I have been such a tt. I wanted the proper VTS! Going to have to sell it now. Thankfully I only paid £700. Anybody looking for a cheap car? :cheese:

Have you ever been a tt like me?

ing owner didn't mention that it was a 1.8, unsurprisingly.

It's on Gumtree already.

This will probably get removed....

Slight white lie about the girlfriend thing, but I could hardly put "I'm a tt" in the ad.

So you looked at the documents quite closely then? Nothing jumped out at you when you gave the insurance company the reg number and they read back the model?
Not very...clearly!

I went to see an Audi Coupe (the old GT5E version) and asked the owner to open the rear hatch. Ahem.
I like that one.

I have had people try and climb into the back seats of my 156...from the front door

I have sent the old owner a message advising I will return (at my cost) if he wants it back.

I wonder if I will hear from him?

If it's any consolation, I have just returned from a journey from Portsmouth to Carlisle by train, and back via my new 147 GTA which I picked up today.

It was only after driving from Carlisle to Birmingham and thinking, god, the economy really is poor, that I realised I'd driven 200 miles without using 6th....first car with 6 gears paperbag
Which one did you buy?

Tidy that one. Red with the different front bumper iirc. I think he went to town on cleaning it.

Nope, its UK. Thats what caught me out. I knew there was the Irish ones, but didn't know they were here too. It's right at the end of the Phase 1, registered 01/01/01, so maybe they "upspeced" it to get rid (Citroen)

Thanks for sharing. It does look convincing! White dials too.
I know. Its so obvious now, I looked at the engine but it didn't register.

I hope he takes it back, or somebody wants a cheap, reliable run around for a bit!

Seems like a clear case of misrepresentation to me. There isn't a 1.8 VTS - it's a VTR. If it was sold as a VTS its refund time.
Private sale, and they did a 1.8 VTS, VTS referred to the trim spec eventually I'm lead to believe

you're believing wrong, never been a 1.8 vts for the uk market. oddly your car shows as "model unavailable" on all the databases.
my bet is its an irish one, theres plenty of saxo 1.4 "vts" models floating about, outside the uk its trim spec but over here strictly reserved for the 2.0 model
That's what I mean. I wonder if it was destined for Ireland at one point, but never made it. It would explain the very late registration.

So are you going to take it back to him and suggests he gives you your money back, or else? If it was advertised as a VTS then you're due a refund.
Unsurprisingly I'm being ignored. fk.
