This word 'hoon' has been a core of the PH philosophy from the start, however, I am still not entirely sure I get it?

Is it when you take your p&j for a drive of any discription, drive like you are on fire, drive for the hell of it or just a bimble to the shops?

Is the goon ruined if you scare yourself, if you can't shake the Zafira in the twisties, your car develops a fault?

Is it enhanced by a random occurrence like an act of goodwill by you or another road user, a stunning view opening up in front of you or driving through a rain storm onto a dry road?

Is it more about the enjoyment of simply driving or driving to the best of your ability or the car's?

What is a 'hoon' to you and what does it make you feel?

ctually it seems to have crept into common usage over the last 4 or 5 years. Makes me cringe whenever I read it, sounds like a bunch of 17 year olds going out Corsas to me...
At least in the 4 years I've been here!

For me it is the slightly over the norm, spirited drive. Today i turned into my road with a rattly old prelude behind me, I could tell by the way he was usin the road that he was enjoying the drive. He encouraged me to pass my driveway and carry on another 5 miles or so just for the hell of it. Brilliant!

A Hoon for me is nipping out to the shops for a loaf and a pint of milk(shop 5 minutes away) normally early morning quiet roads and you end up out for an hour and an extra 30/40 mile on great roads sometimes at pace bu just for the enjoyment of even a corner that you like or a tunnel(and a drop down a gear with the roof down for the straight 6 noise).
Any and all of these things, I'm lucky I stay on the A82 10 minutes from Balloch and the road to the Highlands etc.
You lucky sod, that is a beautiful stretch of road! My personal favourite is the road from fort william to mallaig, not the a82 but a cracker on a crisp autumn morning

It usually stops being a 'hoon' when my progress is slowed by traffic with no opportunity to overtake or I drive into a 40 / 30 zone.
Just means you can give your steed a breather before giving it a 2nd gear blast when you pass the NSL sign!

I suppose a hoon can also be just for a stretch of road on an otherwise mundane journey i.e. commute.

Cars. Always will be better than bikes hehe
Not on this thread please! :P

So far we have: Blat for 10/10ths, Hoon for 7-9/10ths, Drive for 4-6/10ths, Bimble for 2-3/10ths and Waft for 0-1/10ths?

Is that about right?

Ask any racer, any real racer. It doesn't matter if you win by an inch or a mile, hooning's hooning.
Racing is different. It isnt relaxing or for entertainment or even for the journey. It is a task, a goal to be achieved. There is no satisfaction (unless you cross the line first/set the fastest time...whatever)

Hooning seems to be about the pleasure of the occasion and enjoying ones/the vehicle's abilities
