A theoretical combo of a 4 year old and a E88 135i

As a second car?

With promises not to drop the top on motorways etc?

Madness to consider one... or a mollycoddle too far not too?

Any horror stories from owners?

I understand the issues with buffeting, its more about the safety implications both top up/down.

My sentiments indeed...

Have been seriously considering a M135i (5 door) which was initially met with spousal approval. Since considered the financial benefits of a 135i or 335i convertible; big saving, the extra thrill (IMO) of roofless motoring, and probably 85% of the performance of the M135i. Not really interested in the coupe alternatives.

Unfortunately Mrs Rix has an opinion and seemingly cant be swayed: 'You can have any car but not a convertible'. Suggestions as to how to 'educate'? Stats?

The reason I posted this is because my wife apparently dropped it into conversation with her peers and they were all in agreement with her. I was incredulous because any attempt I made to justify it (as per much of the above!) fell on deaf ears. I basically wanted to gauge from 'my peers' (you lot) whether I was on my own. Hence the reason for asking with no bias. Don't get me wrong I agree with most of what's been posted, IMO any increased risks should be balanced against the potential frequency of that risk occurring. In respect of 'doing what I want' I think even the most self centred have to concede that I have to be considerate that she's the child's mother!

Not sure if it adds anything to either argument but I forgot to mention she had a Mini convertible for 3 years (sold pre-sprog).

But OP, and this is a rather big but I'm afriad.
When we really boil this down, one must conclude from the input you have given, that your wife is telling you that she really doesn't trust her children with your driving.
Which must be interpreted as you being a poor driver.
A poor driver, here on PH!!
Shame on you OP, shame on you.
Think about.
I appreciate the ' wink ', tho you may be near the truth in terms of perception. That said, and without being an arse, I've got a piece of paper that says otherwise smile
