I'm not sure if this thread occurs every few months, so apologies in advance if needed.

So thinking of investing in a 'future classic' in the next 3-6 months and wondered if anyone had any suggestions on a car that you could buy today, wrap in cotton wool and then make a tidy profit in 5/10/20 years (I'm 25 so time frame is pretty flexible). My budget is pretty flexible but was thinking around the 15k limit (to minimise risk more than anything), but could be stretched I guess.

Lets make it a top 3 thread... go! idea

Do we go "on 3" or count to 3 and then go?

have you tried the search function?

I know it's not great, but there are quite a few threads found regarding this.
I did run a search function, however failed to find a thread that provided the information I needed tbh

Ford Racing Puma - Cheap alternative, cant be more than 250 about today.

Skyline R32 GT-R, Give it 20 Years, when they have ALL been molested, a standard one will go for a mint.

can get both for 15k with change
I did ponder an R32 GT-R, I ask myself if I could really keep it off the road for that long wobble

Do they age well without much use though? I have always been on the opinion jap cars tend to age better with use rather than bubble wrap, I am probably wrong though?

needs to be rare, and have a bit of a following. For £15k I would say clio V6
This is the correct answer to your question. Mark 2 255bhp version of course

Get it got.
Something like this then...

I reckon they will only depreciate now when we run out of petrol. By which time they will be classed as historical art anyway. Either way, a win-win!
Interesting point, with the oil supply dwindling, I probably didn't take in to account if there will be a huge market in 20 years time for petrol cars.

I guess people would want a life size model however, good back up plan smile

BMW 850CSI

Bit over budget though

If kept away I'd imagine it would be worth alot one day
costly to keep
How so? What would be the major expense? Servicing?

Op said it would be a "cotton wool car" so I took that as either storage or very occasional use.

850CSI is very rare, very desirable and quite icontic so I think it would make a great future classic IMHO
Yeh I would literally be putting it in storage, I'm not sure there are much costs associated with this apart from a bit of cleaning afaik?

Thanks smile I will have a browse through these later. Lots of great advice guys thanks, keep it coming. Seems to be a big following for the BMW's although the other lists people have posted are well worth a look into. I guess it gives me a lot of scope when I come to shopping the classifieds!

Maserati Biturbo.

Very rare to get a good one these days.

Alternatively a Maserati 3200 GT or 4500 GT?
I recently saw someone had started a thread with a quattroporte in for circa 17k surely that would be the better buy? But with such high costs of maintaining and servicing would people be in the market for one in say 15 yrs? Hoping FIAT don't shut it down :P

Some great feedback thanks guys! I am close to deciding the Renault Clio V6 255 might be the best pick. Running costs are not really a huge as it will need a service and mot once a year that's all, I won't be chewing through parts if it's off the road.

I think there will always be a cult following for these cars. But now I have a substantial list of cars that I can start looking at and compare the 'perfect' examples smile

I dare say if the BMW's have double and tripled as suggested they may have hit their ceiling on price now? Or very close to?
