... by "just bought" I really meant "picked it up on Monday".

Having two sports cars wasn't working out very practical, having to look after nieces during the week so needed something more practical.

Paid £600 -£700 if you include buying tax- for it from a dealer who wanted it gone quick (was a trade-in); full Volkswagen service history, low (ish) mileage, 4x branded tyres with good tread, Mot'd until November, everything works as it should.

It's a 1999 2.0 petrol (8v, single overhead cam) in jazz blue. I actually had to check that it was indeed petrol before filling it up; "they're all like that sir". Averaging 42mpg from the obc.

Not bad for what I paid for it, hopefully reliable enough. More money to chuck at the TVR.

For the money you can't really go wrong with that, good price especially with tax included. Should be easy enough to sell on for similar money when you're finished with it
Cars are a little more expensive in scotland, It's a good solid car with no problems. I was looking at golfs around £1600 and they all had problems! Saved myself a good bit of cash by getting it over a similar aged golf.

He's being ironic, as with the bit about full VW service history on a 14 year old shed.
Service history shows that it wasn't owned by a penny pincher, and it makes it easier to punt it on to the next buyer 6-12 months later.

I had a Golf with that engine. Never saw 42mpg though. At least it's pretty bulletproof.
I do mostly steady motorway and dual carriageway. I also suspect the obc is optimistic. I brimmed it today so time will tell.

After a motorway run from uni using my lightest foot (boring):

Mpg falls off a cliff when I go over 65 mph

I found out the hrad way that diesels are a false economy (to the tune of £2300). fking peice of st audi went kaboom moments out of warranty.

For once with a cheap car, I don't have a "to-do" list. Everything works as it should. Well pleased with it in that respect.

Contradicting my hatred for modified cars, I think it would look nice when lowered and with bigger wheels. The front splitter scrapes kerbs as standard though!

It has a full VW service history..............except the inspection light is on?
It wasn't reset at the last service, I phoned the dealer that done the servicing to confirm the stamps in the book were legit.

So which are considered branded tyres? The OP hasn't told us what are on his Bora.
4x Continental premium contacts, all look just about new. Not the best, but not exactly ditchfinders.

Here it is, with the typically drab Scottish weather.

Not as shiny as it could be, it's riddled with swirl marks.

What would be a more realistic Mpg figure around town?

I've never run a 2.0 petrol as a daily, so I have no idea, but would consider one for the price difference over a diesel.
I managed 31mpg in very light traffic (2pm). That included coasting to traffic lights and being as light footed as possible. A 2 mile run from cold (always uses more fuel when cold) sees an average of 25mpg

Had it for a couple of weeks now, nothing has broke/fallen off/overheated/exploded which is unusual for for me with such a cheap car. Previous owner kept good care of it and it shows.

I'm going to get a da polisher to the paintwork and bring it back "to new" and sort the various deep scratches after exams.
