Today I saw a bright orange M3 GTS in Newcastle, but when it drove closer I noticed that the interior was that of a standard M3, and it was also on 08 plates. The exhaust looked different, and after checking up on the car I found out that it was a BMW 330i.

I have no problem with people who make replicas, but I'm quite curious how people manage to do stuff like this without it costing more than what the car the replica is trying to copy costs?

Does insurance and all the parts not add up to loads more? Especially as it is "modified."

People who make replicas are obviously into their cars, but don't they realise that others who are also into their cars are able to spot that is not genuine from a mile off?

Good point! I realise maybe the GTS isn't the best example. But I imagine all the carbon fibre parts will still cost a fair bit. I've seen loads of fake s3's and they don't cost a fortune.

I don't have a problem with it, I just recently noticed quite a few replicas and was curious what the mind-set was behind it. Badges are a bit different as they don't cost much and you don't have insurance implications etc.

It didn't sound too bad actually. Still no M3. the S3 I saw was a diesel and you could hear it clattering away. It was quite amusing.
