I've been looking at a new car due to my extended commute, nothing exciting, just a Volvo V40 D2 SE. I've negotiated a decent discount that I'm happy with. The only issue is that it'll be a 3 month wait for delivery (no biggie).
However the dealer has offered almost the same price on a much higher specced ex-demo car with a mere 300 miles in it. It'll be a £6k saving.

The issue is the colour, it's 'misty blue' which is probably the last colour I'd choose. Am I being fickle about colour? I guess so, but how important is colour to you?

Would you buy a car with better than ideal spec at a price that's perfect but in the wrong colour?

I need to MTFU don't I? frown

Isn't the misty blue that slightly off-white colour? I quite like that tongue out
Yes it is, I think in normal light it looks alright but when it's sunny then it looks a bit 'baby blue' to me

Maybe I need to have another look at the car. Everything else about it is right

Am I missing something here?
First you say its almost the same price, but then say its a 6k saving.
Which is it?
Is it only a 6k saving due to its spec being better?
If so, as those items are not what you specced on yours originally, its not a saving is it?
It would only be a saving if it was 6k cheaper than the one you specced.

Personally, I'd stick with what you originally wanted, remember you did order it like that for a reason! wink
Sorry, I wasn't clear. The model that I'd order is a moderate spec but in any colour I want. The model offered is way over the spec the I'd order but has all the stuff that is useful/desirable but pushes it a I've what I'd normally pay.
They're offering the better specced car at the same price as the car I'd ordinarily order. The difference between the list prices is £6k

The v40 is a fugly car Anyway I'm sure the colour won't make much of a difference.

Just buy a mx5 thsts the answer to everyone's problemz
I like it, it's unusual. A change from the usual VAG/BMW options out there but I know what you mean, it's a bit 'marmite'.

I also considered the Golf Mk7 but the interior was dreary and the exterior is a bit dull.

Out of interest (not sure I'd bother) but how much would it cost to wrap a car like the V40?

I wouldn't order the extra bits because of the cost, they're useful but not essential.

You're right, it's not a saving vs the car I would order but a saving on list price.

Basically, the higher specced car is an SE Lux (instead of an SE) and has panoramic sunroof (I wouldn't order this), sat nav (useful but too expensive), DAB, upgraded sound system and automatic parking (useful but I wouldn't order it)

But there is no 6k saved.

Car A has 6k worth of extras but is blue
Car B is spec and colour chosen by the OP

They are both near enough the same price.
There is no 6k left over for a wrap
You're absolutely right, I was using 'man maths' to get the additional toys which are options that make the ownership that bit more comfortable.

Maybe one way to look at it is; take this car off our hands instead and to compensate for the 300 miles and colour we'll give you £6k of options that make the car quite nice.

Dear Mr Trevor,
Do you have a trade in?
If not,
You may wish consider looking at an onlinedealer ?
I got a price from drivethedeal.com and the dealer was £1500 off their price (DtD was a £3k discount!), I negotiated them to a £2k discount. They wouldn't go any better and whilst they are keen to do a deal, they couldn't afford to go that far.

As much as the DtD price is tempting, I feel bad about using the local dealer for test drives and then buying online.

O/T: But I assume you meant DtD or Broadspeed as 'Internet brokers'? I'm not put off from using DtD but would prefer to keep the business local. That said, £1k is not to be sniffed at!

OP do you actually dislike the colour Misty Blue colour or just wouldn't choose it? I think I'd take the extra toys (pan roof, nav and speaker upgrade sound quite appealing) and put up with having a toothpaste coloured car biggrin
I don't hate it and I'm actually surprised that there isn't a single colour on the list that I hate. I like the car because it's 'different' and I suppose I can't allow the colour to be 'different' as well.

I really quite like the colour. It almost looks a bit mint or undetcoaty.. I'd be happy with it.

I'd rather an actual £6k saving in my back pocket.. Can you push them further?
I'd intend pushing them for more.

I think I'm convinced, I'll be spending 25k miles inside the car so that's the most important. I'll see if we can strike a good deal on it.
