I was on my way home from work this afternoon and noticed a Porsche behaving very strangely. When passing it was shocking to see that driver was taking a swig from a bottle of Whisky, could have been brandy.

We were in roadworks so everyone was going 50, so spent a good couple of miles along side as I did not believe what I had seen. The car was however driving very badly, with little lane control, much accelerating and sudden braking. The car was also obviously in the wrong gear!

So, I spend some time deciding what to do:- call the police or not.

As I came to my junction I undertook, and to my horror there was a small child in the car. The bottle was between the mans legs.

I stopped and called the police.

They have just called. A statement is needed as they stopped the car and he was drunk as a skunk, and is now in custody. No idea where the child is but at least is safe.

I must say I feel terrible as my call has ruined his day, but not others, and perhaps he will receive some needed treatment.

Just want to let off some steam.....

This is pure speculation.

Blokes wife tells him she wants a divorce.

Gets into car, takes child. Drinks.

If he is any kind of parent he will look back and be thankful the police stopped him before it was too late.
That was my final thought before I called. I suspect that if there had been no child I would have looked the other way.

Thanks for the comments, the post was not for praise. My decision has been playing on my mind for some hours. I know I made the right decision but........

However I can sleep knowing that tomorrows news will not include a suicide with child, or a terrible accident.

And as i said, he clearly needs help so hopefully he will now get it
