Land Rover 1969: PH Ad Break

A Kiwi commercial that gets straight to the point of Land Rover!

Land Rover doesn't spare the pennies when it comes to advertising and marketing nowadays. Getting Mrs V Beckham on board for the Evoque project if of course the famous example, but taking a Range Rover Sport to Pikes Peak can't have been cheap. Neither can racing a Spitfire or closing down half of New York for Daniel Craig to launch the Sport earlier in the year.

This 44-year-old commercial reminds us of a far simpler time for Land Rover, where it didn't have to possess a shred of on-road comfort or driver luxuries. They were Land Rovers in the purest term, and what better to way to advertise its abilities than by filming some properly tough off-roading?

The ad was filmed in New Zealand, where we see the Landie tackle craggy inclines, dense foliage and a far deeper river than looks safe. All at a surprisingly spirited pace too. The car appears unfazed by the adventure, which is more than can be said for the driver, sawing away furiously at the wheel.

As well as indulging our nostalgic tendencies, this ad makes the recently announced Bowler Defender Challenge look even more exciting.
