The Myth of the M25 Speed Camera

I can say that about 3-4 weeks ago I was blasting round the M25 near Clackets Lane heading towards Dartford Tunnel way and was probably doing about 88mph (sadly I didn't travel through time). It was late, I was late and I was the only car in sight and got lit up like a Christmas strobe light tree passing underneath a gantry. There were no temporary speed limits indicated or lane closures etc, just normal empty dark motorway.
I waited with trepidation but it is now well over 14 days after and received nothing, however I have no idea if there is a selection that are working or whether they are not active for the 70mph limit.
I'm hearing this exact same story from a lot of people , I think they maybe possibly produce fines when a variable speed limit is being shown on the gantry.I waited with trepidation but it is now well over 14 days after and received nothing, however I have no idea if there is a selection that are working or whether they are not active for the 70mph limit.

Were the speed matrix signs on the gantry showing?
I know that if someone gets flashed by the camera, but the LED matrix sign showing the speed limit is malfunctioning (that could mean, 1 out of the hundreds of LEDs which make up the sign doesn't work), then the fine is automatically cancelled.
That's one way you can spot which gantries have a camera attached. A few hundred yards before the gantry, at the side of the road, is a pole holding a set of CCTV cameras - these are pointed at the LED matrix signs, and designed to determine if, at the time the speed camera functions, if the relevant matrix sign is not displaying correctly.
From what I can remember there was nothing showing.I know that if someone gets flashed by the camera, but the LED matrix sign showing the speed limit is malfunctioning (that could mean, 1 out of the hundreds of LEDs which make up the sign doesn't work), then the fine is automatically cancelled.
