Help insuring an additional car
Discussion
Hi,
Have decided to add a load lugger to the fleet but a bit unsure the best way to go about insurance cover. I'll likely only use it a handful of times over the year, maybe 2K. I also have off road parking available.
I considered the short term insurance places 1-28 days, 3 month policies etc but tbh they come out near on as expensive as just buying an annual policy.
I have a leased Golf which is due insurance in July I was considering insuring it early using a Admiral multicar policy thinking my 8yrs NCB could be used on all cars on that policy. Going through the website application, it seems I can only apply it to one car. Quote came out at (Golf 344 + Volvo 403) £747, so not cheap whichever way you look at it.
I only paid £221 for the golf last year so single polices may be a better option. Are there any brokers/insurers that will mirror my NCB so I can get the Volvo ticketed for reasonable money? I actually have 2 lots of NCB but the 2nd one is in use on the Lotus, I need a 3rd!
Thanks
Rick

Online LV show £268 for TPO cover with 8yrs NCB or £480 with nil NCB. Closed at min so yet to speak to them about mirroring.
edit - LV won't mirror unless I have an existing policy with them, so £480![frown](/inc/images/frown.gif)

Been working the comparison sites, Go Compare showed an unknown broker offering at £344.
Did a final one showing it as an import as I've got a feeling it is, bizarrely Swinton who were previously silly money then dropped in at £312.
I think that's pretty good!
Magic formula seems to be
2 drivers, one female
3K mileage
TPFT
Import
IAM certificate made no difference.

Saved a bit more. Went through Topcashback. Used to get quite a bit for buying car insurance but seems they have changed the system so you now fill in a comparison on their site, get the prices and then are forwarded to buy.
Admiral at £295 but went with Diamond at £301 as I know from researching they offer a 10 month bonus accelerator policy.
Prob should have waited till I get the thumbs up on MOT and don't break down 1 mile from sellers house but too eager and have gone ahead and purchased.
1998 Volvo import UK spec
2 drivers, 1 female
3K per year
Nil NCB
10 month NCB accelerator policy
£256 + £6 for paying by CC, less cash back of £22.50
So circa £240 all in all, fantastic price for having zero NCB, very pleased. Will be my 3rd lot of NCB earning now too.
Cheers for the advice![smile](/inc/images/smile.gif)
