Claiming for damage via pothole

Hit a pothole today that has dented the inner rim of my wheel. Its now slowly leaking air.

Spoke to a local repair place and they said £50 + vat. Can I claim this off the council? The pothole in question is about 15cm deep and 30cm wide/long.

It's been there for half a year or so, surely they know as its one of the main roads in and out.

Pothole was filled last night. Have to presume they knew about it so I should be able to claim?
