Inappropriate Drag Racing Cars?
Discussion
Went up to Crail on Sunday to do some drag racing- I took my Octavia Tdi up, but mine was not the most odd car there..

What odd things have you seen running down the strip over the years? I've got the taste for it now, so need to work out how I can go faster..

We've had a few Octavias race with us over the years as part of the VWDRC. We had a stock Sharan with us at the Summer Nationals the other week! The joys of bracket racing
sounds good- link to the vwdrc if possible? 60+mpg makes it cheap to head to various venues!i was just RWYB rather than bracket racing (thats where you try to get as close to a target time without running faster?)
cheers

The VWDRC
Our next round is in a few weeks, Bug Jam at Santa Pod. I think the RWYB is on Friday? We'll be all set up in the pits from Thursday lunchtime onwards. If you come then you'd be more than welcome to look round all the cars (we've got some lovely stuff racing with us) and have a natter etc
Cheers for the link and info-will see how things line up for heading down. Our next round is in a few weeks, Bug Jam at Santa Pod. I think the RWYB is on Friday? "Our" bus is still in the top 20, the Sambasaurus at number 15. Dan the previous owner ran 15s in it but we have a bit less power now and were running consistent 17s at the Summer Nationals, which is not bad with 21 windows worth of heavy glass and a roll cage! It's not mine but I crew for the team and drink all the beer... Once we've scrubbed the new eco-tyres in (via big smoky burnouts) we're hoping for high 16s at Bug Jam.

Summer Nationals isn't a VW-focused event so we got a lot of surprised public and competitors in the other classes gawping and asking questions. It's also the only race car I know of that I can comfortably sleep in

At North Weald on Sunday, a bog stock 1950's Ford 100e with the 1103cc side valve engine. Covered the quarter mile in 58.16 seconds who says small 1930's cars can keep up with modern traffic?
sounds superbEdited by whysub on Tuesday 7th July 02:21
where can I find a list of when North Weald Has sessions on?
cheers

North Weald event dates are shown at www.maitlandracing.com
Only one car and bike date left on Sunday 26th July, and bikes only on 9th August. £10 to spectate, £25 to run the track.
Some really good vehicles there (plenty of sub-10 second quarter mile times from road cars), including (this time) quite a few Transit vans too. Top day out!
