New Car Lead Times

Evening all,
I enquired about a new car on Saturday, a new Fiesta ST if anyone's interested.
Anyway, when I enquired about the lead time from placing an order to delivery and was told 3 weeks worst case and 5 days best case.
Having never purchased a new car before I wouldn't know but is this normal? Surely they can't build and deliver a car in 5 days and this would be chosen from a prebuilt lot sitting next to a port somewhere?

How can I ensure that I get a factory built car and not a pre registered in stock car?
If I'm going to buy a new car I want a brand new car, not a car that's been sat in a port collecting seagull turds and sea salt for the last three months..
Sure I can ask but that doesn't stop the dealer giving me a stock car but delaying the delivery to make it look like it's factory fresh.

Picked up my Fiesta ST last weekend. Roughly 6 weeks from placing the order to picking up the car - it was a factory order too and was built and released from the factory on the 7th April. I would say anything less then this is likely to be sourced from another dealer or compound somewhere.
Was there any sort of progress checking facility for your order? Kind of like the Dominoes app but for cars?

I did eventually pull the trigger and ordered the car on the 7th, an ST3 with all but one option box ticked.
Had an update from the dealer today who claims that the car was assembled during the week and is currently sitting in Zeebrugge waiting to get on the boat. I should have the car by the end of May if all goes well.
Sounds plausible but as many have said it doesn't make much of a difference if the car is a few months old as registration and warranty will be as new..
