RE: Caterham 620R at Goodwood
Tuesday 28th June 2016
Anyone going for a time at the Goodwood Festival of Speed needs plenty of denial about the possibilities of it all going a bit wrong, physical peril being somewhere down the scale when you consider the potential for humliation. So hats off to anyone willing to put it on the line. Hats off especially to Jon Barnes, who took the Caterham 620R up in 61.76 seconds, beating direct rivals like the Zenos E10 R, BAC Mono, Elemental RP1 and Lotus 3-Eleven among others. Indeed, in the Supercar Shootout he was third overall, beaten by a Porsche 911 Turbo S and Jan Mardenborough's Nissan GT-R but quicker than a host of more powerful and exotic vehicles, Praga R1R, McLaren 570S Sprint and Radical RXC Turbo among them.
Caterham 620R at Goodwood
Even if you're feeling a little Goodwooded out this Caterham 620R run is well worth a minute of your time
Going by a press release from Caterham Barnes sounds like a bit of a geezer too. "Truth be told, my driving was a bit pants over the bottom part of the hillclimb," he says. "I was really angry and just ragged it over the top half." He's far too modest - this is a proper bit of driving in a car that goes like a lit firework.
Enjoy!
