MOT Advisory note, valid?
Discussion
Hi
Some advise please....
4yr old Smart 2nd MOT in its life.
Had the car in Brussels for a bit so fitted these to the back to prevent parking shunts.(Picture below)
Gave the car back to the wife and forgot to remove them for the MOT.
MB Winch came out to see her while she was waiting and said they wont pass with those on (Fair enough, should have removed them beforehand)
But when the MOT is done there is a bloody advisory saying sharp objects on bodywork.... now there either or isnt any sharp edge MB make your mind up...
I was going to go and ask them why they thought it necessary to write that on file when clearly they/MB removed them for my wife!!
Advise??

Lawyer up - get them preparing a case demanding not only that this horrific advisory be struck from all records but that you're also financially compensated for the trauma that this incident has caused.
Either that or peel of that st sticker and get on with life.
Sticker????Either that or peel of that st sticker and get on with life.
Who said anything about a sticker!!!

Really? Another one of these threads? It's an advisory, suck it up and get on with your life. It's not the end of the world.
If anyone ever questions it when you come to sell the car (which is extremely unlikely to happen) you can show them that picture and explain exactly what you said above.
there is a button you hit to reply to this thread, you cant have a lot in your life to keep replying to "threads like these either" get in with your life lolIf anyone ever questions it when you come to sell the car (which is extremely unlikely to happen) you can show them that picture and explain exactly what you said above.

Do you have to drill the bumper to fit those, or do they just stick on? If someone does still give you a decent nudge is it not more likely to crack your bumper?
no - they are machined threads the same as the towing eye, just on the smart there are 2, they had a small black protective cap you flick off, people think these are parking sensors! cause you really need them on a smart lolTooMany2cvs said:

Oh, you're one of those, are you?"If you're not going to tell me what I want to hear, go away..."
Look, it's very simple. You presented a car for MOT with sharp objects on the bodywork. Rather than fail it, the tester advised you, and you removed them there and then. This is how it should work. Satnav, cuddly dice, other "hilarious" tat blocking the screen? Point it out, let the owner remove it. Or leave it in, fail it, and get sworn at. If the tester removed it himself, you can bet there'd be complaints about damage and the rest...
He repeated that advice on the certificate, so you wouldn't be such a fkwit again in the future. Unfortunately, his fkwittery-prevention only extends as far as an hour a year, and he knows damn well that you're going to put them straight back on. With that in mind, covering his arse by saying "Look, I warned the muppet about the stupid fking things" in the only way possible seems like a very wise move.
Please dont call me a fkwit you dont know me and nor do I wish you to either. It is people like you trolling posts on PH and a big reason that people dont share stories or advise because they are afraid of trolls like you shouting them down, so i suggest if you have some constructive to say then please go ahead but to set up scenarios calling people names for no reason sorry jog on.

Bit more about PRS in this thread:

What has he given against the advisory as the reason - any numbers & letters?

This was more about MB thinking they could pull the wool over a woman's eyes...
In what way? What has it cost her?
What has it gained them?
Nothing. There is zero gain to anybody, zero loss to anybody because it's on there.
BUT... if you get caught with the stupid fking things on the way back from the test, the tester could lose his job if he's not flagged 'em.
But, no, your ego is more important than his job.
i think you need to go on an anger management course or something because this thread has clearly wound you up... Stupid fking things!!!! wow...

This is basically the point, and answers the OP's question fully. He might not want to hear it, but it does answer the question. Personally, I'd have worded it a little more politely than TooMany2cvs did, but the bottom line is that the MoT tester is (justifiably) covering his own backside.

They ought to have failed it, removed them, and then passed it on the retest.
Etc.

So they're actually screwed in to the towing eye sockets? Is this common practice in Brussels?
Seems a bit harsh on anyone who might walk past the back of your car in the dark.
I'd suggest he's noted it because he assumes you're planning to put them back on.

You know they've been illegal for a decade, right?General Requirements
It is not illegal for vehicles to be fitted with bull bars, although the Department would not
recommend their fitment unless it has been shown, through compliance with specified safety
standards, that they do not pose an additional risk of injury to pedestrians or other vulnerable road
users.
There are no plans for legislation to require bull bars that are already fitted to be removed.
However, since 25 May 2007, it has been an offence for bull bars that have not been approved as
compliant with those safety standards to be sold. Approved devices will carry an indelible ‘e’ mark

you know there are cars with them still fitted that are older than 10 years old right!!!!Even then (and albeit redundant), like towbars but unlike your own little anal beads, they have an actual functional purpose other than causing injury and damage.

The advisory is correct. A vehicle can only fail on sharp edges that are caused by damage or corrosion. They ought to have failed it, removed them, and then passed it on the retest.
thanks for all the helpful comments and to the not so helpful ones what can I say.......

We call it an "arse" this side of the Atlantic, btw.
