Given £35k which would you swing for? I've read reviews that say the Focus is the better drivers car, and read reviews that say the same about the Cossie. I'd say without a doubt the Escort looks much better, it's obviously rarer and it'll get more attention if that's your thing. It'd be the Escort all day for me.

Got to agree, them headlights look awful.
Agreed. I wonder who fit them with such little mileage?

Are they just a surround you could easily remove?
Think they're actual headlights

As per the quote below, they're Morette headlights. They were a popular modification in the '90's on a lot of different cars and some Ford RS dealers back in the day offered them as an optional extra as they were fitted to some later versions of the Escort WRC car.
Ah right, seen them on Dimma 205's and Saph Cosworths

Correct, it's a 4x4 Sierra floor pan spliced to an RS1600 Turbo body. Stripped out too so just over a tonne? With 450hp it must go like a rocket!
I like the way it looks with a raise centre console too. Bet it'd look better with modern RS Shell Seats though, and a nicer steering wheel.

For me, a car doesn't suddenly stop being good at it's job past x amount of years unless it's a dog example. An Escort Cosworth would probably be as easy to daily now as it would 20 years ago, it's just whether you could bare to do it or not.

Some of my thoughts on this, none of which are intended to offend, cause argument or invite personal insults.

For me it comes down purely to the intended purpose of the car. As an everyday car which I would undoubtedly enjoy driving, it would have to be the Focus. As a toy to do little more in reality that make me smile, it would be the Escort.

As the long time owner of a modified Sapphire Cosworth, I am well aware of their short comings and admit that anyone used to modern cars would probably hate it (wife certainly does). To me however, it’s my car and I enjoy it, it makes me happy. My main reason for never ‘upgrading’, to the Escort was simply that as much as I liked them, I could never justify the doubled price tag. It was not twice the car.
What would put me off nowadays is the current lunatic values, which would detract from my enjoyment. The notion that I cannot use it because of the impact on the residuals, makes ownership a pointless proposition. As such I would need to be wealthy enough to be able to not worry about it.
Finally I would add that it would have to be a modified example, the standard Cosworths never lived up to their potential, with a few tweaks, they become completely different machines.
This. It'd be a tastefully modified example for me too. I'll be looking at a Saph Cossie to replace my car next year. They're gonna hit a rise pretty soon.

I accept full blame for this traincrash of a thread. I posted a simply "which one" with too Fast Fords on PH and expected simple answers, not a debate of two terms or a guy who bought a Focus RS to impress young boys. My mistake, figured it wasn't a hard thread to answer, but this has blown me away. I guess Focus RS is the term to throw a thread upside down. I guess it's just a matter of time before it gets taken down so enjoy whatever the fk this is.

This thread is totally embarrassing. I'm almost convinced that all of you care more about one-upmanship than any vehicle discussed on this thread.

I personally don't give a sh*t if someone drives a Ka, a P1, an F50 or a Elise. If someone loves their car and loves driving it then f*ck you. If someone doesn't love the car you happen to drive and you get all menstrual about it then f*ck you, too.

The second you suggest to another member that their car isn't as good as your car then you're deep, deep into condescending, patronising prick territory and have no place on this forum. I honestly believe this is the worst offence on Pistonheads.

As one of the more immature members of Pistonheads, it feels really wrong to advise you all to grow the f*ck up and move on with your lives.
We can't all be as rich and successful as them wink

Read what I said you fking moron! My statement about impressing 12 year old boys was in response to someone who claimed that as a kid (actually I assumed that), he went to admire an Escort Cosworth in the showroom and he couldn't see the Focus getting as much attention. I simply stated that this generation of kids love the RS just as much as the past generation loved the Escort.

Its not hard to fking understand my point is it FFS?? And you wonder why threads get side railed?!?banghead
No need to be defensive, I'd say you're being too defensive, like someone caught on to why you really bought one? If you like impressing the local Year 8's then that's your thing, don't be ashamed smile

Oh yeah Skype, the ultimate proof the a man is in fact, a man. I really can't tell if you're joking or not, people are right, you should be on stage. God forbid someone doesn't agree with your jokes, we've seen first hand what happens if they don't.

I can call you Nick? Oh thanks, great are we going to be mates now after you've repeatedly insulted me and my wife as well as linking to other posts I've made attempting to whip up vitriol against me? People have feelings Frog. Your pompous, systematic abuse has consequences.
Cry me a river, do you ever just, stop? You know you can stop replying right?
