Lexus LC Convertible confirmed for production

Goodwood prototype previews the road car - V8 sonics for all aboard!

You'd have likely received pretty short odds betting on the likelihood of a Lexus LC Convertible. After all, this was a vehicle that looked as viable as it did delectable in concept form, ready to steal the gaze of whomever might next walk down the show hall or street. That it was based on the LC Coupe, ostensibly a car more about cruising than bruising, ensured the drop top made eminent sense.

Today Lexus has confirmed what we'd all hoped to be inevitable: a Lexus LC Convertible will happen, making production "in the near future". It has marked the occasion by launching this prototype up the Goodwood hill over FoS weekend; if any car didn't need an attention grabbing wrap, then the LC is it, but then it wouldn't be a prototype now without some jazzy camo - would it? It'll be driven by Super GT driver Nick Cassidy.

Lexus proudly describes this machine as "long, low and lean", with "the coupe's athletic proportions, but projects its own, distinct identity." Even with the wrap distorting perception a tad, there's little reason to doubt that from here. In addition, Lexus is promising a "performance pedigree and rewarding driving experience" from the Convertible; a statement perhaps up for a little more debate, given this is likely going to be a two-tonne car, but that's not going to quell our enthusiasm a jot. Not one bit. Look at it!

Tangible spec details are noticeable currently only by their absence; they're said to be due only "at a later date." Hopefully we speak for a few by saying the sooner the better, Lexus. Please.

I have seen a few of the LC coupes around and must say I think they are pretty decent looking things.
