IIRC the older PD motors can take a Veg oil / Diesel mix (my old 53 plate golf did for 90k) so you can make a little saving by running 1/3 veg oil and upto 50% in the summer (currently £0.94 a litre from Costco)
oh that sounds good, are these engines still as reliable as the common rail version?pinchmeimdreamin said:

it will be cheap to run compared to the petrol version, the common rail only came in in 2009
oh well im relieved then because i could only afford An 07 haha, it was 10000 with 30000 on the clockOr you could have had an 08 with only 14k

You decided you needed a car with a high horse power figure, that was a diesel. You spent your full budget after ignoring advice in your other threads.
You posted moaning the car wheelspins when you accelerate.
You now are moaning that the engine is somehow wrong![confused](/inc/images/confused.gif)
You might be a bit dim.
HTH.
i dont mean the engine is wrong, i thought it was CR as it has the same bhp and litre engineYou posted moaning the car wheelspins when you accelerate.

I won't waste time much more time on this mouth breather then!
PD engines are in quite a few cars and just like many modern engines it will be reliable if correctly maintained.
If your car is a 1.9 it's maximum output unless mapped would be 150bhp not 170bhp as you claim, for this output your car would need to have the later 2.0 engine.

Three questions.
Are you happy with the car?
Do people really buy cars based on power output and not find out what is actualy under the bonnet or how the car drives?
Who the f
k is asif?
i bought it because i heard the volkswagen tdis were reliable and on autotrader all seem to have high mileageAre you happy with the car?

Both suffer the same DPF problems. CR is smoother/ quieter, PD noisy and rough.thinfourth2 said:
Am i right in saying to save money you bought an expensive unreliable car that uses way too much fuel and costs a fortune to insure.
At least its a diesel
its 47mpg quoted which is a lot more than its petrol counterpart with less performanceAt least its a diesel
its unreliable? it seems more reliable than unreliable i cant find many horror stories on google
its cheaper to insure for me than a quickish petrol that returns less mpg
also i got it for 800 pound less than book price
